Re: Skrtel = GOAT
The thing is that all players make mistakes, defenders and goalkeepers just get scrutinized for them a hundred times more than midfielders and forwards.
Anyway, for my money we are sorted as far as our top two CBs go for the next couple of years, Skrtel and Sakho. No need to buy an upgrade (like we tried to do when Rodgers thought Lovren was needed to replace Sakho, but I don't want to get entangled in that again). Ideally we would get a young CB as third-choice (I'm hoping Can's place will be in midfield) to slowly learn the trade, like Chelsea have Zouma, Everton have Stones, Arsenal perhaps Chambers etc. McAgger will say Ilori is that young CB, we'll see.

While most/all of us is concerned with Henderson and Coutinho, Skrtel have played 36 of the 43 games we have played so far. He should have a break after the City games.

For those who didn't watch the LFC video on fb about "3 things you didn't know about me" interview with Skrtel
1. He owns 2 big dogs
2. sometimes, he can smile
3. some romantic movies made him cry !! probably the Hostel or something

our club seems to be really naive sometimes, cant decide for their life about whom to offer how much and for how many years !

Isn't he complaining about a minimum games played contract, that he wanted more, im sure i read that before, i would really like to know what the contract is before i slag the club.

Re: Skrtel = GOAT
No brah you are deluded if you think we will sign a new CB and he will be better from 1st day for us. After Toure leaves, we need to keep Skrtel around for 1-2 seasons more. We are already in deep shit and I dont wanna lose Skrtel, Lucas. These players are important to health of our club imo

Re: Skrtel = GOAT
yeah Mr r 34, apparently we offered him wages based on number of games he will play for us. May be can put a clause in his contract that after two seasons or more, such a clause will be applicable but right now at his age if we wanna do that, we are getting it completely wrong.
Sometimes things are so stupid, once you get to hear Rodgers saying about Agger, that if ManCity or any club wants to buy him, they will have to offer 40m or something and next thing you know is he was sold to Brondby for 3-5m

Re: Skrtel = GOAT
Well that's completely wrong if true for someone like toure he should be paid per game, but skrtel shouldn't.
It should really only apply to people over 30 years of age.

Re: Skrtel = GOAT
Skrtel is 30, but that's no bad age for a CB. He's been our most important and reliable CB for I don't know how many seasons in a row now, it's completely wrong and disrespectful that we're being cheap now by trying to put a minimum appearances clause to his contract.

Re: Skrtel = GOAT
Consistently shit you mean, then I agree.
The guy has had 13 games of consistent good form since Kenny left. Outside of that he's been so hot and cold that I don't give a damn if he left.
There are only 2 defenders that in my eyes are still worth keeping from the bunch we have, Sakho and Ilori.

Echo wrote:Martin Skrtel believes his new, heavily incentivised, contract offer from Liverpool is “unacceptable” and makes him “uneasy.” Two strong words. There’s a two word response the Reds could deliver. Joe Cole. Actually there’s another two: Fabio Borini. And how about two more? Milan Jovanovic.
All three are examples of Liverpool’s previously flawed contract policy. All three were players who signed lucrative long-term deals at Anfield, not dependent on games played. And all three were players who spent long spells draining club coffers whilst making a minimal contribution to the club’s playing fortunes.
loooooool
Cole, Borini and Jovanovic never performed well for us. Skrtel has proved to be a Liverpool-level center-back for several seasons.
Okay, so the club is probably afraid that when Skrtel (now 30) is 32, 33, 34, he will no longer be at his peak and might not be starting quality. I can understand that. But what the club needs to understand is that if you offer a contract that says "we are afraid you might become shit in a couple of years", you risk losing the player when he's still at his peak and important to you.

His agent has just come out and said the he hasn't accepted?
Skrtel's agent Karol Csonto: "At the moment I can only confirm that we are negotiating with #LFC, but we have not yet signed any contract."
