It never died. Hell, look at the amount of subs WoW has. And that's not even a game

Except realistically speaking there hasn't been much "driving" in the past few years. Gone are the days of Doom 3 & Crysis where titles were released with requirements that required a year before they would be maxed out.

Now everything is pretty much a lazy console port, with the only significant "developed first/only for pc" games IN THE PAST FEW YEARS being Battlefield 3, Shogun 2, Civ V, Napoleon: Total War, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat, Left 4 Dead, Portal, Mirror's Edge, Far Cry 2 and that brings us up to Crysis: Warhead.

Of those, only S.T.A.L.K.E.R. put any real strain on PC hardware. But nothing compared to Doom 3 and Crysis.

whoever made that graph needs to relearn how to make them "skyrim at 270,000" actually shows them at 220,000....

At what resolution? When resolutions higher than 1080p come out will you still be running these games fine? It all depends on setups/what you run etc but the fact still remains that most of the research being done into replacing polygons and more groundbreaking graphics is all being done for gaming. As new technology becomes available new games will be written to take advantage of new hardware.

the amount of MMORPG out there, and most of them have thousands of active players.

PC gaming won't die

There really needs to be a new console so that games can take that leap forward. We're limited by console hardware because even my midspec PC can run all games full blast at 1080 without a hiccup. And everything is so cheap now, you can build a monster system with like $600.

I will admit consoles have stolen many titles, though They're getting most of the attention nowadays, even if IMO, some of those games would have been much more enjoyable on a PC.

And glad to know there's someone that appreciates the genious that is STALKER .

Oh, and if you guys loved Vegas, Oblivion and etc, then you have no idea how great those games become one they're modded.

Obv. don't have Steam. Skyrim reached 270k concurrent users on Steam on release day. almost 3 times as much as when TF2 went free to play.

sauce? The last games to truly take advantage of PC hardware was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. CryEngine 2 (PC Crysis, Crysis: Warhead) looks better than Frostbite 2 (Battlefield 3, NFS: The Run) or Cryengine 3 (Console Crysis, Crysis 2) which were both designed with easy development across all 3 platforms in mind rather than pushing hardware. Cryengine 2 is 4 years old now and is still the only engine that makes my computer sweat (although that's more due to my gimped VRAM not having enough bandwidth to handle high AA settings at 1920x1080) apart from Company of Heroes and Neverwinter Nights 2 - more due to engine inefficiency than being graphical powerhouses. All DX11 has really added was hardware based tessellation rather than the software based one (like you could mod into Cryengine 2 - if you had the rig to support it, probably why Crytek didn't enable it upon release). Dx10 was about pushing graphics, DX11 was more about efficiency.

Both id Software and Crytek have ditched the PC as their main development platform.

Battlefield.

Other than that, I got nothing.

Hell I had one console in my life: Sega 2 :dance: If you count Gameboy Color and PSP, then 3.

I aint a gaming person actually, used to play 1-2 games per month before, now its 1-2 a year. So why bother getting a console?
