Juventus now have the tools to fight for the Italian championship again, says former boss Marcello Lippi.

The tactician won five Scudetti on the Turin bench, including the 2002-03 title which was their last before Calciopoli.

“Juventus are demonstrating grit and determination,” Lippi said in an interview with the Corriere dello Sport.

“Juve have returned after a long time away, while Milan are back to their best after struggling in pre-season.

“The two teams will fight for the title until the very end.”

The 2006 World Cup winner added that he believes the capture of Andrea Pirlo from Milan over the summer was a vital move.

“Juve needed a player like Pirlo, one who has class, personality and calmness,” the ex-Napoli and Inter boss continued.

“Pirlo is important, very important. However, the metamorphism of the Bianconeri can’t be explained by just one player or one formation…

“There are a lot of diverse factors which have made a difference, like the stadium. I think that a lot of players understood what Juventus really are during the arena’s opening ceremony.

“They are a competitive side again and I hope they can get back to winning. After all, football is made up of cycles.”

Juventus are currently top of Serie A, one point above Udinese and Lazio, and two clear of reigning champions Milan.
