New name of Juventus stadium

There are always finishing touches to be completed on a masterpiece. And Juventus Stadium now has everything in place to be considered a true work of art.

The final element came this afternoon from the City Council’s Group Leaders Conference, who unanimously decided that Corso Grande Torino should be renamed after Gaetano Scirea.

"A world champion and a symbol of sportsmanship and loyalty," underlined President Agnelli at the meeting. Annamaria Licata, representative of the 'Per non dimenticare Heysel' (Never forget Heysel) committee from Reggio Emilia, and the panel established that the victims of the tragedy in Brussels would be remembered as part of the redevelopment project in Continassa.

The current Corso Grande Torino will move near to the Stadio Olimpico - in front of the Curva Maratona - while the new name for the present road named after Gaetano Scirea in Mirafiori Sud has yet to be decided.

Now all that remains is to wait until Tuesday 8 November, when the Toponomy Board will meet again to confirm the decision. That day looks set to see the address of Juventus Stadium become ‘Gaetano Scirea’, meaning the masterpiece will be complete

That is the official name according to Juve official facebook page.

I wanted stadio Del Piero.


But, it's 30000x better than Ryanair stadium. That's horrid.

Thank God Juventus did not do what a lot of English clubs do and go for money over history.

It makes a very hard case for who it should be named after...though Del Piero holds a world football record for having played in the most stadiums.

Maybe this is for sports complex and souroundings? I clearly do remember Juve selling it already like a year ago....

Maybe, but the article said the masterpeice was now complete, as in the stadium.

I guess we'll see next month.

They had the highest bid on top of Alitalia, however never sold.

Aren't they just talking about the road by the stadium. From what I understand they're just renaming a road after scirea.. Or am I wrong?

Corso means "Avenue" in Italian. The name of the street that the stadium sits on will be renamed Corso Gaetano Scirea, not the actual stadium itself. They will in turn rename the current street in front of Stadio Olimpico that currently has that name.

I thought it was odd. But it literally said that was the name.

But i'm 90% sure the stadium itself will be named after Scirea.

No, the stadium name will be sold, it will not be named after a player. They will get millions in revenue by selling the naming rights...

Tom, I think you just misunderstood the official Juventus page. It clearly says they are renaming the "road" after Scirea, not the stadium itself. But yes I do agree that Dejan should rename the title of this thread to stop all the confusion.
