The team isn't conditioned for away matches lol. Got trashed against India and now Australia.
Hope we can take advantage of a bit of Australian slump but I highly doubt england can make over 250 atm

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket - World Cup 2019 Special
They seem pretty casual about it. I admit to cheating, but only because we got caught. CA seem to be much more harsh.
I don;t quite understand it. I read one account that said they were trying to roughen and damage the ball so much that the umpire will replace the ball with the balls in storage that for some reason are able to reverse swing.
If that was the case, wouldn't it be really obvious looking back on the previous tests that when Australia needed to "replace" the ball, it was likely because they also ball tampered?

Yea I wouldn't be surprised if they've done it before.
It was just shocking and out of the blue really. Crazy in fact. But good that they were caught.

One of my English Lit lecturers made a joke not so long ago that Australians are a nation made up barabaric delinquents who were sent to the land down under by the British for not fitting into their prim and proper culture.
Funnily enough he was speaking in partial reference to the Australian cricket tour to South Africa that was gonna happen soon.

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket - World Cup 2019 Special
I saw the whole incident a few hrs ago
This Bancroft dude is probably the dumbest cheat ever. The way this whole 'plan' was played out was so miserable. Then for Smith to come out and say 'it wont happen again' like a school boy was so cringe-worthy ffs.
The only positive you can to take from this whole fiasco is they admitted to it.
Reports that Smith might be facing a year long ban.

BREAKING: Cricket Australia confirm captain Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were the only three players with prior knowledge of ball-tampering against South Africa. More now on Sky Sports News. #SSN

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket - World Cup 2019 Special
Smith and Warner banned for 1 year apparently. Wow
Cant believe Lehmann has come out of this unscathed. But i suppose Cricket Australia were too concerned about losing money from sponsors and TV deals so they took the easy way out and scapegoated a couple of their players instead of going for a full blown investigation.
Huge black mark on Steve Smith's career though especially since he's at his peak more so than Warner. Lead test batsman in the world, creating records comparable to Bradman , now all of that will be a forgotten memory and instead he will have to come back being known as the player/captain who employed cheating tactics to win games.

Yea, on himself really. Tainted his own career and greatness.
I won't be that surprised if this was really Smith and Warner's idea, regardless of whether Lehman and the rest of the team knew about it.

ffs
They are manhandling him all the way to the flight like he gunned down a bunch of people or something
I am not particularly a fan of him at all but this is pretty sad to see tbh. Feel for him at this moment. The 1 year ban was really harsh on him too. Banned from IPL as well. Maximum punishment any player has got for ball tampering is a 2 match ban but i guess Australia just want to set a precedent for anyone looking to bend the rules.

The more older and deteriorated the ball becomes the more likely it is to swing. Just has something to do with the make up of a cricket ball.

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket - World Cup 2019 Special
Without getting too scientific about it: the more scuffed and rough one side of the ball is, the more turbulent the air that passes by when it's in flight. That then forces the ball to move in the opposite direction to where it's supposed to be.
So a bowler will bowl with a grip and seam position that will make the ball move away from the batsman (outswing), but because one side is so rough, it moves towards the batsman instead (inswing) - hence the name "reverse swing".
Conventional swing will stop happening as the ball gets older and harder to polish, so teams rely on reverse swing instead (which is much harder for batsmen to predict by looking at the bowler's grip and seam position). But reverse swing is difficult to accomplish without tampering with the ball by intentionally damaging it.
Just about every team in cricket will discretely try to rough the ball up, usually by bouncing the ball in instead of throwing it to someone's hand. Players might tread on the ball with their spikes as well while fielding. It's only really obvious incidents - like using tape - that get punished.
Tbh, Smith and Warner's punishment is in a direct proportion to the outrage rather than the level of offence. Ball tampering is punishable by a one game ban in the rulebook, but people were angered that a captain knowingly cheated and I guess Cricket Australia had to put their foot down.
