he cant because he represented brazil youth and if you do that you cannot switch nationalities unless you had that nationality before you played for the youth team
hope that makes sense
it is the reason why arteta cannot play for england

Jermaine Jones played for germany u-20 and the full national squad.. and now he plays for the u.s. national team

there is some grey area because they just changed the rule a year ago so im not sure tbh.

if you have played an official fifa match with the national senior team you can't switch, so you can play friendlies for different countries i guess

Did Marcelo ever play an official FIFA game for Brasil (I think not)? A year or two ago there was talk of Marcelo getting Spanish citzenship and that he could be available for Spanish NT. That's why I'm asking. I know he was called up but was injuryed and dropped, then for Copa america the coach didn't take him because he thought Marcelo was faking previous injury to not accept Brasil call-up (denied by both Madrid and Marcelo). But I don't know what games he actually played.

From Marcelo's boots, it says "Pedro & Enzo, the reason to life". Enzo is his son and Pedro is his grandfather. His grandfather is the big reason to why Marcelo is playing football. You can read in his "RealMarcelo" interview. San Pedro is an amazing man.
