Footballers shouldn't be rich
How much prettier would the game be?They should still be well paid, but far from the ridiculous amounts they get now.It would be much more about the passion for the game rather than anything else...Only thing raising them higher from an average fan should be their game.Footballers and other sport stars are considered Earth walking gods for ordinary people, and thanks to those fat checks they feel like and consider themselves ones as well.Even those down to earth stars, they think they are better from fans who sing to them on stadiums and without whom there would be no game for them to play.
Apart from the personal issue, there's of course football, that's what this is all about.Transfers would probably be a rare occasion compared to today's transfer policies.Club hierarchy would be established through football knowledge rather than money and most of the players would be homegrown.Football would be much more special than it is,less frustrating and there would certainly be more love than hate.It would not just be team vs team,it would be city vs city, culture vs culture, people vs people...Instead of we bought them vs we bought them.
When did sport society establish itself so high?Guess it used to be like this until people saw a great business opportunity...I love football, but there are some absolute idiots and dumbasses who only know how to kick a ball around and behave like monkeys and they will make more money in a year than a doctor or a scientist will make in a lifetime.
Anyway, just killing time till Inter game, move along

Re: Footballers shouldn't be rich
Kinda agree. But the money is being made so who else should get it? Should the clubs donate it all?
One thing is different here in Germany compared to the US though. People would not pay outrageous ticket prices for sporting events so that athletes get paid an insane amount of money. German fans would stay at home if ticket prices were at US level or PL level.

there is a reason why these players get paid so much because their workspan is often only 10/15 years. That is only 10/15 years of earning compared to 30/40 years of a average person. Since they have focused on footy their whole life, they probably lack the ability to gain a significant job ( bar some famous football players). They need to make a lot of money purely for their family or their future. Nothing wrong with that imo.

Re: Footballers shouldn't be rich
Not happening with how worldwide football is. There's just too many people and too much money being generated for it to go somewhere. I'd also rather have the players being rich than it all going to some shady boardmember or already millionaries who make millions already.
Mr. Hendrix also has a point, although current salaries are far too inflated. Most players make more in a few years than most people make in their lifetimes. If they are half smart they are already well off in a few years of decent playing time. If not, then they are usually guaranteed a decent job in the footballing world if they again are half decent.

Footballers earning is justified because they themselves are proven brands that generate money. Look at how many shirts Ronaldo alone sold the year he was bought to Madrid... I cant bother to come up with actual numbers, but I am sure his jersey sales, sponsorships, adverts alone paid off and exceeded the amount he was bought for (within months??).

Re: Footballers shouldn't be rich
One of my football idols who is the only one who is a life Idol as well is Socrates.
He got his MD while playing professionally, and after retirement went back to school and got a PhD in philosophy. Donated all of his money (kept his stocks and assets) to charity, and lived on the money his medicine practice gave him.
Refused and BS "football ambassador" job, only occasionaly worked as an analyst and mostly in his blog and not professionally. A great footballer who can also claim to being a great man.

Ding ding ding. PRECISELY right. I studied sport marketing in school and one of my classes dealt with sports and finances, and we talked a lot about salaries for athletes and how they are actually UNDERPAID based on what teams are making off of players. Hard to imagine, but professional athletes are technically underpaid... Now, that's not to say they aren't compensated well, but the difference between "how much money are they ACTUALLY worth" versus "how much money they are paid by their employer" is way, way off...
Now, many athletes make up for this in endorsements and what not.. but you have to remember that, like the quote i am posting, professional athletes have an incredibly short time frame to make their money. Since they are a professional athlete, they probably don't have many other job skills that you or I might have, which will make it nearly impossible to become employed outside of their sport once they retire
So, you can call players money grabbing whores all you want, but you have to remember that this is a profession and, like you or i, they want to work for whoever is going to pay them the best salary and help them achieve a safe financial future.

The money has gotta got somewhere and I don't want it all ending up in the board members hands. They should donate most of it to charity.

All in all rich should not be rich when there are still some people in the earth starving to death.

I cannot think of someone else good enough to be the recipient of all the money generated by football. After all they are the ones that make it happen.

The entertainment industry is the one that have the highest pay disparity. Most footballers get really mediocre wages, only on top clubs and leagues doe footballers get massive pay.

Also, remember that all the money generated is coming from the fans pockets. This inflation in players wages and transfer policies will eventually lead to more expensive ticket prices, more expensive cable prices, more lock-down on illegal streams. etc.

Your logic is so flawed man.... So apparantly footballplayers can't find a job after they are retired ??
2nd of all , There are other sports out there where people earn ALOT LESS then footballplayers..
The reason footballplayers earn so much is because it is a popular sport.

Agree , Then you wouldn't see teams blow up their budget like Barca with Chigrinsky or Ibrahimovic. With a salary/transfer cap they would have had to deal with their mistakes instead of just sending them away.
Salary / transfer cap would benefit the more intelligent teams on the market.

salary caps are for ruining games
just cause youve got a salary cap you still dont get even competion and you still get players earning huge amounts of money which they dont deserve, also you get veterans being forced out of clubs because they cant be fit in under the cap and at the end of the day alot of $ being slid under the table (only by the clubs who can afford to of course) trust me salary caps dont work
EDIT: also salary caps DO NOT promote teams brining through large groups of homegrown talent and turning them into superstars, with a cap you bring 1 or 2, 3 at the very most, but its impossible to bring in 5 or 6 youngsters and make them world class in one go and build a team around that spine when youve got a salary cap
and salary caps dont even spread talent evenly down the league, talent still clusters at the top
look at the current barca team xavi, iniesta, busquets, messi, pedro, puyol etc are all from the barca youth academy (i thinks) now would it be fair that over the last few seasons barca were forced to sell these players to be compliant with a salary cap? no
would it be fair for messi, xai, iniesta to leave their home city, family and friends so they can get a fair pay? no
would it be fair that for messi, xavi, iniesta etc were forced to earn 10% of their current wage so that they can play with the guy they grew up with, the boys they dreamed of playing in the barca first team with? no
or would it be fair if barcas squad players were forced to leave barca so they could keep their world class players? no
so what is so good about the cap?
ill leave this vid now and stop ranting
