Brio expected Del Piero exit
Former Juventus defender Sergio Brio is unsurprised by the news that this will be Alex Del Piero’s last season with the club.
President Andrea Agnelli today revealed that the No 10 would no longer play for the Old Lady once this campaign has come to an end.
“I expected the news,” Brio told TMW on Tuesday. “When a club like Juventus extends the contract of a player like the club captain for a year then it is obvious that such a decision is on the horizon.”
Del Piero has developed into an influential figure and a Juventus icon since his arrival from Padova in 1993.
“You have to recognise that he is one of the greatest players in the history of the club,” continued Brio.
Despite the fact that the Italian international is approaching his 37th birthday, the ex-stopper is adamant that he will be greatly missed.
“Juve will lose a lot with his exit, especially technically,” Brio insisted. “Alex, even with his years, is still the best player in the squad.
“That’s why I don’t think he’ll retire from the game, but he’ll perhaps try an adventure in the United States of America.”
Del Piero has played in 682 games for the Old Lady so far, scoring 284 goals in the process.
