So far, CR7 has taken 33 shots in 2 La Liga and 1 CL game... the rest of the Madrid team COMBINED has taken 34 shots.

One thing to throw into the fray is the amount of time CR7 spends on the ball as opposed to Messi... just as a hint, Messi has the ball at his feet far more than CR7. He just doesn't shoot as much.

So, do you guys prefer a player who dominates possession and takes fewer shots or one that allows his teammates more possession but takes every available shot he has?

My conclusion: Same impact on the team, but different styles. CR7 is no more, no less selfish than Messi. He just goes straight at your throat and doesn't mess around. Attracts a lot of attention, which allows more space for others when he doesn't have the ball.

Messi's dribbling through 4-5 players makes him marked by 2-3 players always, this means he gets more attention attracts more defenders and open space.

To stop cr's shoots only goalkeeper needed, he doesnt attract as many defenders as messi. thats why we see cr free in open spaces most of time while messi is always surrounded.
Only maradona is comparable to messi at this even zidane didnt get so many defenders attention

Also, the reason that the rest of the team is so efficient is in part because CR7 gets so much attention. Defenders know that he is looking to go for goal at every opportunity... they can't leave him unmarked for a second and usually have a second player ready to help.

His presence creates space for the other players for Madrid.

I agree he gets attention... but you're not watching the attention that CR7 gets. Just look at our recent games with Barca: Alves rarely jumps into the attack because he need to stay back and cover the left side where CR7 operates. As a result, Barca have one less man to help with their possession game and attack. One reason we were holding Barca even in possession during the supercup as we pinned their defense very low.
