Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
No two players, not even Xavi and Iniesta, connect as well as Messi does with Alves. Its strange to see such a understanding.

Agree 100%. I think it was last season (against Sociedad) where Alves and Messi did 4 1-2's before Messi put it in the net. 4 1-2's!!!!

I think Messi is the best tiki-taka player in the team. he can do it with anyone. passing and his running to right places while one-twos makes the differenceThe Franchise wrote:No two players, not even Xavi and Iniesta, connect as well as Messi does with Alves. Haha nice one jiopsi, that was it!
We don't see much of that anymore, I guess cause our formation has changed.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Heh, Victor actually gave a prime example of the negatives of predicting freekicks today, when quessed wrong and gave a goal in goalies side.jiopsi wrote:It's not weak, He's well capable of shooting it +30 yards as against Paraguay shows:Deja Vu wrote:His FK was better than Ronnie's, no doubt. Problem is though, his shots are average in terms of power if not weak. He won't do much from long distance ones unless the GK had a slow reaction, see Casillas in Bernabeu.
Imagine if he had Cristiano's thighs, tho.
Casillas had slow reaction because Messi beat the wall, and he saw it too late. Goalkeeper does either two things, predicts the shot and starts the move before he sees the ball, but then his side of the goal becomes more open for a strike. There is no right or wrong, as it is more of a guessing game what you do.
Also power shots without beating the wall are always goalie mistakes as in a sense he's to cover that side, wall the other side. Walls job is to slow the shot so that goalie can reach it, or block it all together.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Absolutely brilliant performance from Leo. When the team was down to 10 men, getting tired, and about to concede, he goes and does this:
Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Its amazing how he keeps adding strings to his bow every single season.
Every single season,we predict that he he has reached his limit and wont improve any further. And yet he keeps defying logic.
When he first broke onto the scene he was a dribbling machine with amazing linkup. Then he added goals to his game. Then he moved into the center. Then he became a false nine. Then he added amazing passing and vision to his game. Then he added his won interpretation of the false nine role, playing the role more as a 10 and taking on more and more playmaking responsibility.
Now he has added freekicks to his game.I expected him to start putting them in last season but was unlucky.Hit the bar quite a few times.
Now he is one of the very best FK takers if not the very best.Gets them on target and tests the goalkeeper almost every single time.
Just a complete player in both senses of the phrase,in having perfected all the fundamental facets of the game and in being able to play multiple positions (imo he can play to a high level any position from CM up).
For my money the most complete player in the world.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
I can see him improving further and eventually when he loses pace he will play as a centre mid or attacking mid depending on the coach in the future. Has growed as a player every single season. To finally get caught by everyone, just needs to succeed in the WC I guess though imo he is still one of the top 4 greatest ever players.

201 goals and 90 assists in the last 200 games at Barcelona.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
What a goal. From Messi's initial lobbed ball, to Pedro's slick chip, to Montoya's pin-point low cross, and then that touch from Messi and the finish.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Yeah, there were some brilliant moments in the match - mostly coming from Pedro & Cesc...But then there's the Messiah
Having to remind myself that this genius has yet to hit his prime - I mean, you have to really let that sink in for a bit...He will get better as evidence with the quality of some of his goals in the last year

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
As of late, he has been doing below average compared to last season etc, but what is scary is how much better he is going to get..

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
He just played 3 full games in a week, in a 3 different countries and 2 different continents being the key player of the team. It's normal that he isn't fully recovered yet.Donuts wrote:As of late, he has been doing below average compared to last season etc, but what is scary is how much better he is going to get..
Will have probably good week rest now, because of the Copa game.
