Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
We're finally going to see a proper game against the Swiss where both teams have some ambition at least... that will be interesting.
Talked to a friend of mine who is close to football in France... and he said that the lack of official games since WC 2014 has been the problem. Some things that worked in friendlies aren't in official games. So it's forced Deschamps to experiment in official competition, which is never what you want. No choice though.
I asked him what lesson have been taught:
- Martial and Coman aren't ready to start. Especially Martial. They are 1v1 players who haven't really learned tactical and positional intricacies. They're late game jokers at this point. Coman is further along though than Martial.
- The 4231 is not a good scheme for this squad. Never has been. The issue is that Evra and Sagna aren't good at overlapping so you lose the advantages the system is supposed to create on the sides.
- The defense needs to pick up the opposition higher. They did that late in the last 2 games and it created chances/goals.
Conclusion:
- France comes at you and at you until the last min. If you set up super defensively, you can resist. But when you start getting tired as every team does around the 65-70 min mark, then the end of the game becomes open. That's why you see a lot of the late scoring. Against teams that are more ambitious, that script will change.
- The 433 is the correct system with the adjustment on defense where the pressure is applied higher. Deschamps is a bit nervous about it because Rami and Kos are cancerous in open space. So do you take the risk of better overall defense but open up to mistakes? Or do you continue to sit low and compact to mitigate the mistake tendencies of the CBs while sacrificing possession?
Hard decisions. I think it will depend on the pace of the opposition. They won't allow space behind the CBs against teams with fast strikers like Wales. But against more methodical teams like Germany and Italy, they will push up.
The loss of Varane was massive.... massive massive. It completely put in question the whole defensive concept of the team.

Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
I think we've sorted out a scheme that will work. Coman wide right with Griezmann playing behind Giroud is the way to go, especially given how well Griezmann defends. You don't lose anything on defense and you gain a lot on the attack.
The CBs are a disaster. Rami got suspended thankfully... it can't get any worse. The problem though is that Mangala, Kos and Umititi all play on the left with Mangala and Umtiti both being left footed. I think Mangala is going to play and Kos will be moved to the right side.
England is going to have a real chance of beating us because our central defense is going to be putrid. Lloris will need to play huge.
Not really impressed with Sagna or Evra... some good and some bad. Both are pretty average to me.

Umtiti was warming up against Ireland at some point . maybe he'll start against England ?
But knowing DD and his obsession with " automatismes " , it will be Mangala .

If Umtiti starts it would be his first NT apperance ever. It's a gamble. Not saying Mangala is definitely better but I'd understand if he starts.

Griezmann gave the Irland v France gameball to the son of the murdered policeman (his mother was murdered too)... nice gesture.

Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
Some really incredible talent coming up from the U19 squad that won the Euro U19. Here are the big names:
Martial level talent. Seriously. These two are going to be studs:
Mbappe and Harit
Going to be potentially stars:
Augustin, Michelin, Blas
Worth following to see how they evolve:
Maouassa, Diop
Massively talented team.

Considering the WC is in 2 years and with so many players coming up , do you see Mbappe and Harit making the team ? Deschamps is not exactly the manager that would start experimenting a lot. You have to be impressive at your club ala Coman , Kanté or Martial .

Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
@Sport Kante is the new one... Assuming everyone is healthy, Pogba, Lass, Matuidi, Rabiot, Cabaye and Kante should be the 6 CMs.
They better enjoy it too because Amine Harrit from Nantes is about to break through and become and absolute superstar CM. This kid has Martial level talent in the midfield.
.
Imo Cabaye should not be there anymore (at current level) , Matuidi should not be a starter (or at least his place shouldn't be guaranteed) and Lass is a question mark . Let's see how he does this season.

They're 2 years or more away... after the WC. Mbappe is 17... the rest are 19.
Super talented though. Hope they don't go sideways somewhere and get ruined.

Speaking of... Mbappe made the squad to play the CL game tomorrow. I think they're going to play him a lot. Watch him dude. He's got crazy skills.

Yeah no one can tell. Out of a bunch of talented kids, few make it to the very top. Kakuta is in china now after all.

Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
Ousmane Dembele is going to explode at Dortmund too.
Honestly, i have no idea what Deschamps is going to do You already have Martial, Coman and Lacazette on the team. Fekir coming back. Dembele coming up. Augustin and Mbappe are going to push in 2 years... and you still have Benzema, Gameiro, Payet and Griezmann I'm not even mentioning Lemar who is going to develop too.
There's only 3 starting spots!

And Bayern are looking to buy Harit. They're offering 8 mil Nantes will likely require 15-20 mil.

Lloris is injured... as is Coman. Ben Arfa is not playing well enough.
Rabiot and Gameiro not being there in place of Sissoko and Gignac are my big beefs

Re: France NT News, Formations & Results
Another interesting part of the press conference... DD clearly stated that Evra and Sagna are likely going to be too old and lose performance by the time the WC comes around in 2 years. So he's going to give Digne, Kurzawa, Sidibe and Corchia a chance to develop.
