Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Arsene Wenger
on Robin van Persie…
The medical team did very well to get him on the bench [for the Stoke game]. They did so well that he got us two goals so I don't know whether we should give the goals to Van Persie or the medical team!
on Gibbs, Jenkinson and Diaby…
It looks unlikely that they will be available for the Chelsea game.
on Thomas Vermaelen…
He is back in full training again, he is alright now.
on Jack Wilshere…
Everything is going to plan. The next steps will be to have a scan but he is on track.

So Vermaelen is a sure go for the Chelsea game?
If he plays, then we can have Kos at RB

No i think he might use him as a fourth crossbar , Which actually not a bad idea at all

But then we'd get owned for offsides...

Wenger: "Vermaelen will be a bit short for Saturday. It didn't look too bad but he came off with a slight calf problem."
Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Hopefully Vermaelen will be fit for the games after Chelsea.

Vermaelen on twitter: "Btw, i had a small cramp at the end. Nothing serious. Just went out as a precaution."

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
So for Chelsea, Vermaelen is 50/50, Sagna out, Jenkinson out, Gibbs out?
So we can expect Djourou, Mertesacker, Kos, Santos. With Miguel on the bench?

For Chelsea - Vermaelen is definitely out. "Calf strain" or "cramp", either way we'll be cautious.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Arsenal centre back Thomas Vermaelen is available for selection for Saturday's big London derby at Chelsea.
The defender came off with cramp in his calf towards the end of his comeback in last night's 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Bolton but following a good night's rest he has reported for training today.
Speaking after the game Thomas said: "It was great to be back and to get time on the pitch. I felt fresh, I’m OK and am available for Saturday."

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
If he is available, then he is most likely to start giving the imensity of the occasion.. But should we risk him? Almost 90 minutes midweek and a start the same weekend after a month injured? I have an uneasy feeling about this..

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
I think Wenger would risk him, seeing as it's such a big game, and then maybe sub him off at the 70 minute mark?

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
yeah, use him and sub him at 60-70, or better yet. Don't use him. Koscielny has been a beast and we don't need to risk Vermaelen going into the game stale or fresh from an injury. We have 4 easier matches following Chelsea, use him then.

Squillaci and Djourou on the bench.
We need Vermaelen to shout down Torres.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Wenger is playing mind games here and it may just pay off.
This will have a huge impact on the RB position. Its the biggest weak point in our defence and the pacy Sturridge will be eating Djourou for breakfast.
Stick Koscielny at RB, who's quicker, a better tackler, and its a whole different game.
Vermaelen will start, and Kos will be at RB

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
that defense with Kos playing RB will see us through. But of course given the circumstance, i would not mind if we came back with a point either.
Our biggest worry is Torres. Hopefully Vermaelen and Mertesacker can sort him out.

that 3-5-2 lineup i posted in the bolton match thread is perfect. it's basically that backline but with santos in a more advanced position with walcott on the opposite side. 3 mf's in between them and two forwards, RvP and Gervinho/Park
