How do you define world class?
Define: World Class
Was brought up broadly in another topic so I'd like to see what everyone thinks.
Would also like to know what people think of very injury prone players, Robben for example.
Allowed multiple choice.

Re: Define: World Class
It's supposed to be the best 23 squad in the world. WC is overused though, so I'mma just go with Top 5 players in the position imo.

Voted top ten in their position, that seems fair. This can change every year as well.

should have a thread where people compile there top 10 players at each position....
GK
LB
CB's
RB
Wingers
CM/CDM/CAM
Strikers
Get a general consensus on who gets most votes in ppls top 10's and define who are the overall top 10 by number of times each person had a player in there top 10

Re: Define: World Class
it depends, u can name more than 5 WC CBS or Forwards these days not 1 or 2 WC DMs
id say someone who's playing in a compatitive league and is consistant for a few seasons can earn the title WC, but 1 or 2 great seasons are not enough

Re: Define: World Class
Someone who could plausibly be part of a 23-25 man world squad.
Obviously, you can't have universal consensus on anyone to make the squad, except maybe Messi/Ronaldo, so the list is a bit longer than 23-25.
For example, Villa/Rooney/Tevez/Ibrahimovic/Eto'o, which 3 out of those 5 would you want in your world squad? Everyone's opinion is going to differ, but the point is those 5 are all good enough to be a serious contender for the position, and thus World Class.

Good point actually, everyone is always going to have their favorites but I suppose you'd have to consider consistency levels, etc. to really narrow it down, even then it's a bit difficult.

Re: Define: World Class
someone who is consistnetly great for his team
you cant just say a wc player is a player whos within the top 10 within his position
what if for one position they are not too many great players but the one whos tenth has to be wc then?
same goes with top 5
best way to look at it is who is consistently great

Re: Define: World Class
Like Zizzle pointed out, I think it depends on the position.
I think there are more than 5 world-class strikers, but not more than 5 world-class left-backs.

Cant agree with this. Least year Neuer Valdes and Van Der Sar would have been the best GK in the world and choosen in a 25 man squad.Does this mean Casillas Buffon Cech and Reina are not world class goal keepers or have not produced consistantly great seasons?

Re: Define: World Class
World class is some one who has consistently been quality for a few seasons IMO.It doesnt matter there are 10 better players in his position but if he is also been great for a few season then he is world class.
Yes world class term is over used and every time a player has a good season he is termed world class is wrong but at the same time defining one should be good enough to be in 25 man squad to be world class is under-using the term IMO.There are far more than 25 world class players IMO.

Re: Define: World Class
Typically, top 5 at the position. But sometimes you're going to have a glut of wealth at a position so it will need to expanded to top 10... conversely, a position could be starved of talent and you only have 2 WC players (i think RB is like that right now).
So it depends... not set in stone. But top 5 is usually a good way to go.

Re: Define: World Class
TOP 5 or TOP 10 in their position give or take.........
For example as a CF there are many quality players so it's fair to consider the top 10 in that position as world class.
But as LB there is'nt as many fantastic player's so i think it's fair to say that only the top 5 in that position should be considered world class.
I dont agree withe squad of 23 thing for this exact reason, for example you have only 4 forwards in this squad most likely and there are more than 4 world class forwards around.
