Official Definition of World Class
I'm rather annoyed at the phrase "world class" and how it's being thrown around so often lately. So we're going to define it, once in for all, and vote on the "best" definition for the meaningless phrase. After that, the phrase will only be used with that definition in mind in the context of the forum.
So here's the first step: Define World Class.
So here's the first step: Define World Class.

Someone who is among the very best of his position. No top 5s or top 10s there could be few or many.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
For me, it would mean that said player is roughly in the top 5 of players in his position across the globe
Re: Official Definition of World Class
IMO, its the top 2 players from each of their respective positions.

Like above. A player who can be argued to be the best in his position. Ex vidic=wc, bonera\=wc

That means Casillias and Neuer are the only world class keepers in the world.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
IMO, the best definition is if someone asks you or says is player x world class and an immediate yes doesn't pop in you head or come out of your mouth then the answer is no. If you have to think about it at all then IMO that player is not world class.
You can't really do it by position because some positions have a good amount of WC players and some only have a few.

This is where you go wrong, for me. I don't see the term "World Class" as a definition, but I see it more as a description

I actually agree with this.
A world class player is basically someone who we all recognize as easily one of the best in the world.
Top 5s don't really work because you could have way more world class strikers than defenders.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
a world class player is someone with outstanding performance on the highest level for a long period of time (more than 1 season at least)
"top x in their position" and such defitions are not exactly acurate, for example you can name more than 10 WC forwards, while we cant even name 5 decent LBs these days

Re: Official Definition of World Class
The elite in their position.
There are more "World Class" strikers in today's game than rights backs or defensive midfielders for example.
If you were to go by Ganso's definition then Messi, van Persie, Rooney & maybe Benzema would be the only "World Class" strikers out there.
When in reality the likes of Suarez, Aguero, David Villa, Gomez, Cavani etc are just as good.

Agreed. I think of world class as among the very best in that particular position.
Also, I regard "world class" very differently from having or being "class"

Edited my earlier post.
So by your definition someone like Micah Richards could be a World Class player but Aguero & Dzeko wouldn't even though their both better footballers?

Messi
Higuain
RVP
Gomez
Rooney
are all world class
Suarez
Eto'o
Ibra
Cavani could all make a case for themselves (just an example)
Take for example LB's
Cole
Evra
Marcelo (haters stfu)
Lahm
Clichy? Enrique? already running out of ideas.
Using top 5's we are assuming every position produces the same amount of players.
