How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
Is it just me or has it become increasingly difficult to get rid of unwanted players?
Are there greater numbers of players to choose from than, say, 10 years ago?
Let's take the mighty Liverpool for example: We've got at least half a dozen of players we'd probably be better off selling: Poulsen, Maxi, N'Gog, Joe Cole, Aquilani, Degen... And most of these players have got some name to themselves, you'd imagine there would be some interest from clubs around Europe.
Man City are struggling to offload some of their surplus players (Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Wright-Phillips) and it seems to me that the marketplace is surprisingly difficult when it comes to selling fringe players (but who still could be rather good).
Or has it always been like this and I'm just noticing it better only now when Liverpool are facing the issue?
Or do you feel the same?
Could the reason be that there's so many players nowadays that most of the time clubs can find better value for money from up-and-coming players?

Re: How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
Its not only a matter of transfer fee, there are several factors which affects a transfer and player preference will always comes first.
We are trying to offload leon but he refuses to go,becaus he want a CL club or he want to stay with us untill a offer come.
If you are a Big and rich cub and you want to get rid off some dead wood ,you are never gona get reasonable money in the transfer market.

We don't even want money for them, there wages off our list is good enough, they just want the money, cause they know there useless and no1 would pay them that much

Ask Newcastle we have been trying to get rid of our deadwood all summer.....
James Perch, Routledge, Alan Smith etc etc
But no one want's them lol, we are supposedly trying to offer Routledge +7m for N'Zogbia.
I'll be amazed if Whelan accepts that.

If you're giving your players very good wages (A la Arsenal), then its very hard to offload them because they won't be willing to take a pay-cut and no clubs would be willing to give them that much money

That was just a rumour RG. The report said he was already in Italy when he was in training yesterday. He played the first half of today against Hull.

It's so easy on fifa. Put a player up for transfer and he leaves on the first advance thingie. Except for a certain Joe Cole.

Re: How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
Yeah, it's mostly due to wages. Most of the time they have to get a pay cut, and since they are greedy bastards who prefer to earn money while not playing at all, they'd rather stay and rot on the bench. Amauri would be an example, or the deadwood at Arsenal.

Re: How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
Wages are horrible...they are so underrated when considering a financial model.
Everyone harps about, OMG, THEY PAID X MIL FOR THIS GUY...but don't consider the wages.
a free transfer could end up more expensive than a 10M buy

Re: How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
EXTREMELY HARD
You really wanna get rid of them? Then mutually end the contract, although that itself is a hard thing to do- the player won't accept that if they play for a big club. Even if you threaten to freeze them out of the squad, they won't budge. But if you do manage it, it could be worth it considering you might not be able to sell them for much anyway, and you don't want to pay their salary.

Are you kidding me? Wages "underated" when considering a financial model? Maybe in this forum, where economic analysis is not deep. But in real world, wages is the first financial consideration, son.
Oh, and I think that if wages are high, it has always been hard: SAVIOLA as an example of many years ago, and he was a good player then.

All right, so it's not just me who sees it this way.
UEFA should start a Deadwood European Cup competition.

Re: How difficult it is to get rid of unwanted players?
The equation is like this:
Difficulty of getting red of deadwood players =
(The player's wage*100000 + how much the club wants him to leave *100000)/(Player's ability+Player's age & Potential coefficient)
Difficulty of getting red of deadwood players =
(The player's wage*100000 + how much the club wants him to leave *100000)/(Player's ability+Player's age & Potential coefficient)
