Karim Benzema's career turnaround in the past 5 seasons is completely unprecedented.

- In 2017-18 season: Was a meme striker after 5 LaLiga goals in 32 games, including having an all-time low performance vs. Valencia.

- In 2021-22 season: Undisputed best player in the world by a massive landslide as a 34-year-old & just earned a Ballon d'Or.

I'd even say that Benzema is unironically the greatest late bloomer in football history IMHO. He has developed into a proper world-class striker due to his massively improved consistency in term of finishing & goalscoring production.

From 2018-19 season to 2021-22 season

- LaLiga: 92 goals in 139 games

- All Comps: 133 goals in 193 games

- Consistently scored 20+ league goals in consecutive season (never did that before 18/19 season)

- Scored 25+ league goals for the 1st time in his career (never did that before 21/22 season)

He simply said R9 champions him, you're the one inferring a comparison that no one made

And no, the bar wasn't low. In fact, Benzema himself set a very high bar for other strikers. You can count on one hand the number of strikers who decided every single knockout stage match-up for their team.

Benzema deserves it by being the best player definitely far n away... but yea some of the list is just funny, apart from no Messi, Vini not being higher, etc.

Congratulations to benzema this has always been a dream of his, not many players get to accomplish this much late into their careers, glad I'm able to see him do the things I always believed his talents deserved.

A world class player day 1 funny to see mou there paying respects, after that infamous cat insult just to end up praising benzema every time his name comes up, never understood the dislike for benzema when he was easily second best player on the team for years, people just decided to hate such a gifted player for being a better than higuain lol, just like mou, madrid fans and media were desperate to get rid of this man just to be right about argument they invented themselves, talent>workhorses just life all the players you guys idolize are all elite talented.

It sad that he wasted so many years of his prime and have to play out of his mind to get some recognition before he hangs it up, can see the effects already still fatigued from last season, hopefully he can get to the semi or finals at the wc or atleast play at the same level as the euros, takes it easy before he becomes injury prone, all he has to do is stay fit and let the younger players grow and take more responsibility can still win, and maybe get another CL or bdo.

The greatest karma is everything people said he wouldn't achieve playing for madrid, he did without cr and everything people wished would have happened to him, ended up being higuain career path, and we all know the player people wanted to fall flat on his face after cr departure was benzema, instead cr ended up going down a spiral soon after, that why narrative are stupid.

Well deserved. Benzema was actually doing this repeatedly the past couple years. However, we had multiple issues in the team. Reality is, we were barely midtable when CR left. Big Benz stepped up and not only did he step up, but his team play and style of play always elevates everyone around him. CR only realized team ball was the way to go in his last few years at Madrid. Benzema has been doing it since day 1. Well deserved king

Nothing to take away from Benzine, as he's the correct winner. But lets not pretend this not to be the fakest Ballon ever devised. How the hell is Mane second, and Messi not in top 30, when he won more, had more GA, MoM, dribbles, passes, throughballs, chances created...? And both lost to RM in CL.

How was that more fake? Owen won 4 tituleros scoring almost as much as Raul, who was a pure goal scorer? I don't see the analogy to for example Mane - Messi. Exclusion of Messi was purely political, for media hype. And it backfired with almost zero interest in Ballon.

Did you guys even watch EPL and Liverpool?  He was their best player very simply.  Salah was off most of the year frankly.

BdO is often about the best players on the top teams. City, Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern, etc. typically. So there should be no shock that players from these teams dominate the top 10.
