Salary Cap.
Football is shite now because it's a basically who has money competition.
The same teams win the league every year and usually the CL is the same ( this year won't happen very often)
No one will agree to it because they want to keep the status quo and shut everyone else out but it's what the sport desperately needs.

^^ would be wonderful. FIFA and UEFA are too corrupt for that though

as long as the 30 min extra time is still there, and then a shootout if no golden goal, otherwise some games could go on forever

Yeah that's what I meant. I never understood why they got rid of that. It makes games more dramatic and faster.

Wouldn't a salary cap in Europe have serious legal ramifications though?

Didn't the sudden death goal make overtime boring as shit since teams would be too scared to give up a goal?

I don't envision any changes other than better implementation of VAR and more severe implications (and calls) for play acting (both defensively and offensively). Get rid of the play acting and automatically it’s a different game!

Yeah the sudden death rule did exist in international football in the 90s, called 'golden goal', and it was the absolute worst.
Germany won the Euros 1996 with a golden goal by Bierhoff, absolute joke way to end a game and a tournament.
Think they scaled it down to 'silver goal', where a goal in extra time means the ET ends after 15 minutes if the opponent can't reply till then, and then got rid of it as it sucked ass.

I think there needs to be a margin of error for offside calls, especially now VAR is here.
Players being penalised because their toe or heel were offside goes against the spirit of the rule, and usually aren't calls the linesman can make in real time consistently without guessing.
Depriving us of big moments because tiny distances doesn't seem very fun to me.

It should be visible space between the attacker and defender for it to be considered offside. Absolutely ridiculous, like you said, that players are being called offside for having a skin cell offside. It's making it impossible for attacking play to happen.

I feel like such a margin of error would make every offside call questionable

Re: What rules would you change/introduce to make the game more exciting?
Most offside calls are already questionable tbh. Visible space would at least put a quantity on it.
It's all the same tbh, it's just a matter of- do you want to favor the defender and make an attacker's toe offside, or do you want to favor the attacker.

I mean, not really. They are reviewed, and sometimes we debate about them, but I want to say something like 90% are not. A margin of error would up that significantly.

The more important thing to change is Implementing a MUCH stricter FFP, and a system to make all leagues competitive, and not a 1 or 2 horse race.

Re: What rules would you change/introduce to make the game more exciting?
VAR is great, a lot of injustice has already been prevented thanks to it.
And its basically impossible to make all leagues very competitive, you dont understand how capitalism works.

Re: What rules would you change/introduce to make the game more exciting?
I'd love to see how managers would use a hockey/basketball style sub system that allows players to return to the game after being subbed off.
Now that I think of it, we had this system in high school when I played.
The tactical use of that system, especially in Serie A, would be quite interesting to me.

I would have loved franchising in football with drafts etc. but it will never happen considering the structure already in place.
