Gnabry outplaying Mbappe atm tbh. No idea why he's wearing the number six, though.
Sane, Gnabry and Werner offering plenty of pace on the counter. At least they're trying something different.

Re: UEFA Nations league
Yeah it's a good formation.
Sané's lack of fortune for the NT continues though. He's just not quite on point, for some reason. Unprecise passes, unsuccessful dribblings, etc.
Though it's good he gets a proper chance now, hope he remains a starter now so that he can overcome this blockade

France meanwhile look meh. Don't know if they're still in a post-World Cup hangover, but they look painfully one dimensional tonight. If that pass in behind to Mbappe doesn't work, they don't seem to have any other plan.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I actually hope we lose here and against the Netherlands. It will FORCE DD to stop playing players that don't deserve it (Kimpembe, Pavard, Giroud and Pogba), bring on the better players (Laporte, Sidibe, Lacazette and Ndombele) and stop this nonsense system that bores the hell out of me.
The guy won't do anything unless he's forced to. I don't give a rat's arse about this Nation's League. But the Euro is important...need to adapt.

It's still a glorified friendly, the whole UEFA nations cup affair (which is also why England are doing so well), and yes, France just won the World Cup. They don't really care, and why should they, while for Löw and the Germany NT this has become something of a must-win, all or nothing kind of game.
That accounts for a lot in football.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I can see where you're coming from. Germany certainly have more to play for tonight.
I still think France are a limited team with this starting line-up, though.

Re: UEFA Nations league
We're not limited with the players. The tactics are shit. You can't play like that when one of the CBs doesn't belong (Kimpembe) and your right back (Pavard) has looked god awful since the WC for both club and country. There isn't enough defensive solidity. If DD had half a brain, he would take advantage of our talent in the midfield and the attack... but he's too much of an old numpty for that.
I also understand that he's honoring the WC champ players and won't make changes unless it's completely necessary.
The guys aren't playing very hard though. I don't think they really care or are very concentrated. Don't care if it's a friendly... you need to play harder for the NT.

I actually thought Pavarad was shit in the world cup too. He was getting torched in every 1vs1 situation.
That goal against Argentina pulled the wool over people's eyes.

Remember when Arsenal fans entertained the fantasy that Wenger was about to buy Draxler and convert him into the new Henry?

he honestly should be much better than he is. He has the talent. But he reminds me of Thauvin for France.... lack of speed just does him in at the highest level.

That result is the most interesting result of the day for me, really.
AS for the Germany v France game, it would seem JLow is probably on his last leg and will be gone come the end of the next 144 hour Nations League match day.
We must embrace change, change for the sake of change is good!
Did not watch the games today, so cant really comment on the match that itself. To a large degree winning football matches is all about confidence, Germany lack that now.

Is DD still holding his grudge against him for claiming he'd play for Spain if he didn't get a call up or something? Spain have tried and are still trying, but he clearly wants France I'm a little surprised I always liked him since his time at Bilbao and was a little shocked how us or you (clubs) didn't even try to get him and let him move to City.
But he's been always sold, good under pressure, can play the ball out and is a solid defender.

Re: UEFA Nations league
Laporte "liked" a couple of Rabiot's inflammatory posts pre-WC... and he was labeled in the junior ranks as someone who was a poor teammate: Didn't practice hard (sat out with mysterious injuries) and pouted when he wasn't playing. Kept threatening to go play for Spain.
A lot of these talented French players you don't see on the squad are left off due to behavior since the NT has the luxury of leaving them out given the talent available.
Not to mention there's another talented crop of CBs coming up through the youth ranks aside from the several already available. He's not critical.

Re: UEFA Nations league
Every year it annoys me more and more. As if i can't get into the "vibe" of the football season, we play some games then 1 week pause. Repeat 3 times in 3 months ffs
The first weeks in august i am hyped, then my interest slows down until mid-november as the season starts for real and without interruption.

Re: UEFA Nations league
It's baaaaakk, the Nations league is back, again, seems to be back every few weeks. I dont know if it is just me, but seems to be a lot of international breaks this season. I assume due to this Nations league thing, or is this the normal rate of international breaks for this time of year? I am not sure if this is the last game day of the group stage or not, such is the complexity of the Nations league.
Now, the question on most peoples mind, "is the Nations League a real thing" or is this a fake thing like Global warming, gun crimes and Racism (I watch a lot of American tv, so do not get all the fake news most of you in the impoverished, ill informed, backwards world get, only real news). Is this a real competition or just glorified friendlies set up in such a way to make people think this is a meaningful, real, fulfilled competition. Ohhh, I cant wait to see the trophy presentation!
I assume UEFA make more money from these games then they did from the old, friendly games, that meant nothing and were of so little consequence, they did not even belong to a group or competition or have a trophy presentation.
I think the positives are that you have like-tabled teams playing each other -except for Germany, but that will soon be remedied- no more San Marino vs Spain games. But, you also dont get as many, if any, inter continental games anymore. For all Europeans know, Palau may now have a super team that will challenge for the next WC, but they cant know, they have to play vs teams not only of the same alleged ability, but of the same alleged continent.
Honestly, for me, outside of the steady, continuing demise of the German National team, the most interesting thing to come from all this Nations League is Gibraltar winning not one, but two games and they wont even win their group! That is the biggest thing I can think of from watching the first four matchdays. I suppose if I was Dutch or English, it would be getting me excited, but it is for that reason, that I have to think this thing is fake. England and the Netherlands doing well in a competition???? WTF!!! Gotta be fake, like all this alleged hatred in the world towards immigrants, gays, women, well, just about anyone who is different and by different I mean, not like me (like fuck, even Brazil is voting in these fear mongering clowns, used to just be Austrians, Dutch and French). That is the thing too, a thing is fake if it does not fit your agenda or if you are not doing well in it. So, Germans could say every World Cup outside of 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014 were all fake and that would be real news!
Game day of this fake thing starts today and I think ends next Wednesday
Matchday 5.1
Niederlande - Frankreich
Slowakei - Ukraine
Wales - Dänemark
Zypern - Bulgarien
Slowenien - Norwegen
Gibraltar - Armenien
Liechtenstein - Mazedonien

Re: UEFA Nations league
Croatia have beaten Spain 3-2.
So on Sunday, the winner of England and Croatia will qualify, while the loser will be relegated. Spain can still go through if they draw.
