UEFA Nations league
The start of the UEFA nations league kicks off on Thursday with France v Germany. I still dont fully understand how it works, no one does,it's like the weather or Watford, you just cant explain it, but I know it does have promotion and relegation and some way for small teams to make the Euro nations cup. Also, League A group winners play in euro cup like championship every couple of years.
League A
Group 1: France, Germany, Netherlands
Group 2: Belgium, Iceland, Switzerland
Group 3: Italy, Poland, Portugal
Group 4: Croatia, England, Spain
League B
Group 1: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine
Group 2: Russia, Sweden, Turkey
Group 3: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Northern Ireland
Group 4: Denmark, Republic of Ireland, Wales
League C
Group 1: Albania, Israel, Scotland
Group 2: Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary
Group 3: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Norway, Slovenia
Group 4: Lithuania, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia
League D
Group 1: Andorra, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia

Re: UEFA Nations league
Denmark might not even field a team. And if we do it'll be an absolute mess of a 7th string team.
There's an ongoing union dispute and our NT has and the FA have not been able to resolve it.
We've got the worst FA bar none.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I tried reading the 442 article and failed to comprehend anything
I just want to know this: how does relegation work? Is it only the winner of the league, or the winner of each group? Does every group loser get relegated?
For instance, in League A Group 4, is one of these guaranteed to get relegated?
Group 4: Croatia, England, Spain

Re: UEFA Nations league
Every group loser gets relegated. Uefa released a video and a set of guidelines back with the announcement. Nothing complicated about it.
Every group plays home and away, winners get promoted, losers get relegated. In the top division the group winners play a semi and final to decide the overall winner. Group winners of the non-top division also get a chance to qualify to the euros with a play-off system.
That's all. It's just a way to remove friendlies and make games more competitive by grouping them with similar teams in divisions, instead of giving us Germany-San Marino.

The FA has sent out a notice to the Danish league clubs that all Danish players who wish to play for the NT should inform them right away.
Can’t imagine those players would be well-liked by the players union. It’s a hell of a messy situation.
The NT suggested to the FA that they could extend their current deal with the FA a month to give them time to negotiate a new deal before the October games.
God damn mess. We might not even be able to field a team against Wales this weekend.

I've always been positive about this idea. Friendlies were much more pointless. Would rather watch Italy play Poland and Portugal in competitive games, than random friendlies were usually one team doesn't care about the match. Even if they do, the game is done in 45 minutes when 10 subs get thrown on the pitch and the football is broken.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I love this. Especially for the small nations who can finally try what it feels like to compete in games. Can't imagine it helps moral for countries like Andorra to lose very game 10-0

I want to know much more basic stuff
i.e. how is the connection between this Nations cup and Euros/Euros qualification
Is this just a new name on a competition-like approach to the former friendlies, or is it a pre-tournament to Euro qualifiers?
could not find out how anything from this article lmao

To be fair going by that article it's not that complicated though I have to say it makes the whole thing really just barely more than friendlies.

Germany-San Marino never happened in the friendlies anyway. It happened in qualification, and obviously in qualification everyone should get a chance.

Everyone still gets the same qualifying chance + smaller teams get their playoff chance to make it to euros through the nations league. Friendlies were mostly worse than competitive games. At least now teams should actually try.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I think this works only in the context of bigger fields in the Euro. Makes pool play a waste of time other than 2 games but whatever.
I personally hate it in concept. The best teams that can compete should be the only ones playing in the big competitions over the summer. You don't want players getting tired, injured or booked against shit teams. Also, the untalented teams just park the bus and kick the players on better teams (see Iceland for example). That's not football to me. You're allowed to play defensive... but at least do it in the context of really counter attacking.

My friend has played with a couple of them (they're not very good).
Says this Anders Fønss is a hugely aggressive guy who makes two footed tackles.
I'm so ready for this shit. It's the weirdest thing I've ever witnessed in football
