Ribery & Robben
Two legends of the game, in their mid-30's now, both will be free agents in the summer. I haven't heard anything about Bayern offering them extensions. Where will they play next season? Or are they both going to retire?

Got a source for that? I simply checked transfermarkt and it says both have their contract up this summer.

I'm cool with it, sure. They're both proper club legends and cn stay as long as they want. And we still don't have anyone better.Art Morte wrote:Hapless_Hans wrote:They both have offers for another year. Should be made official soon AFAIK

The board cut it close this time, only offering them an extension a couple of weeks ago.

Funnily enough, while in recent years Ribéry was perma-injured and Robben was delivering consistently, now this season I have to say that Robben has noticeably and decisively declined, while Ribéry has been nothing short of awesome. Ribéry is almost back to his best basically, Robben is not his old self anymore.
Both know they have to expect time on the bench in the case they choose to remain.

Re: Ribery & Robben
Ribery actually looked great other than his finishing against Madrid. Ran them ragged the whole game.
Of course, his finishing was abysmal, just like Bayern as a whole.

Re: Ribery & Robben
If I was a Bayern fan I'd personally be fine with them signing short term contracts as long as they look to replacing them long term.
This should have been done a long time ago but it's especially prevalent now, they can't be as reliant on them going forward.
Also I wouldn't sign Bale, look at the Madrid game and how many players got injured in the game and that's ignoring how many were injured as is.
Maybe they actually win the game if those players don't get injured so I'm not sure signing a player with a history of injuries is a good idea.

Bale would be high risk high reward. Worth a shot imo as long as he's willing to take a pay cut.
I think he could do very well in the Bayernliga

Re: Ribery & Robben
In any event, I expect us to sign at least one serious attacking player to take over from the two beginning next season alongside Coman.
Someone like Martial, or Pulisic, Bailey if we go younger. If noone of note joins except Gnabry returning I will make an "The Bayern Downfall" thread as we will have said our good byes to the top club tier.

Re: Ribery & Robben
Looks like both Bayern and Juve are struck in a same situation so close to consolidate themselves as top tier clubs, seriously challenging Real & Barca yet not willing or not being able to sign one or two players of a good level for their weak spots.
Bayern needs at least one good winger (they didn't believe in Costa unfortunately for them) and maybe a wing back too.
Juve needs a top CM and maybe a wing back as well if Sandro leaves.
That said, being a fan of Robben (and maybe Ribery too lol) I wouldn't mind having any of them play for Juve as rotational options for our wingers.
Do you need a Barzagli in your team btw?

Re: Ribery & Robben
Costa turned out decent but not good enough ultimately. I have no regrets whatsoever about selling him, I'm frankly surprised we got so much for him.
Coman has more promise, he's very good and produces something almost every time he plays, though I don't yet delude myself into thinking he'll be Robbéry level.

Re: Ribery & Robben
problem with Bale is fee and wages though, can't see any top club in for him because of those, both he and Madrid will have to take a pay cut I think before any of the big teams would take a chance and no smaller side will be realistic for him either
China beckons IMO, but I agree, could be a good gamble for Buyern but for that kinda money you can sign martial instead

Re: Ribery & Robben
Agree about Bayern being a good fit for Bale
Bundesliga defenders will make sure to restore all his confidence and make him look like a Champion player again
Easy 30 goal season if he starts for Bayern

If Bundesliga were half as competitive, Ribery and Robben would be earning paychecks at New York City FC and Fenerbahce respectively right now.
