Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:They have only mentioned games which have a confirmed 2018 date, for example last years list didn't have Super Mario Odyssey because it wasn't confirmed for 2017 until January of that year.
I'm sure there will be other games which get announced this year and get released this year as well.
I'm with you on Red Dead though, that will consume me if it makes it's current spring date.
Actually just checked their poll and Anthem seems to be 21st on it, so it just missed the shortlist. My list will be (in order):
- RDR2
- Anthem
- A Way Out
- The Last Night
- Metro
Not sure about Days Gone simply due to the fact that I don't know what to expect from the developers. Looks like it could be a good zombie game until the real deal, Last of Us 2 is released in 2019.
I feel like I should play Shadow of Colossus as I never played the original.
Never played a God of War title but from what I have seen this title looks worth a try.
Shenmue's trailer also got me excited but little is known about the actual game.
And finally I guess I'll also pick up Far Cry 5 on a 50% sale (whenever that happens).
So many games, so little time. You could literally play games 24-7 and you still won't be able to finish all these good games. Let's not even mention my ever-increasing backlog
Re: General Games Discussion
The reason i'm hyped for Days Gone is it looks incredibly creative in terms of gameplay design.
The concern of developer is a fair one considering they haven't made a game since Sython Filter but i have been impressed with what they showed.
More specifically last E3.

Zombie games are always good tbh. Don't remember there being a bad one ever (talking about AAA ones).
Days Gone looks good and will be a solid 8/10 if not more.

I agree, 2018 seems weaker than 2017 to me too but I think RDR2 will suck most of my gaming life anyway so I won't need filler games
Anthem is going through "development hell", so the hype level has dropped in recent months.

In terms of ones with decent narratives or a semblance of polish behind them i think i agree tbh.
The ones that are a bad tend to not have much money behind them or are just like Dead Rising where it's just arcadey fun anyway.

Re: General Games Discussion
Looked quite Uncharted-y which is not a bad thing at all. But it had the same linearity with a lot of cutscene-type gameplay (I forgot what the technical term for it is). Graphics look good too, but story will be key in these types of games. What made Uncharted a critically-acclaimed video game was cinematic design and wonderful characters. I remember my gf would just sit by me and watch me play cause of how well-written the whole thing was. And this is a girl who despises video gamesGreat Leader Sprucenuce wrote:The reason i'm hyped for Days Gone is it looks incredibly creative in terms of gameplay design.

You sure you aren't reading the news about Andromeda? I haven't heard anything (bad) about Anthem since they announced it tbhThimmy wrote:danyjr wrote:Interesting list, surprisingly no mention of Anthem which is quite highly anticipated elsewhere

Unless the forces are again to bash Bioware. The hate this company gets for no reason is ridunk

I have nothing against Bioware. The last Bioware game I played was Dragon Age Inquisition, and despite all of it's annoying fetch quests, I don't think it deserved all of the hate it was getting. I'm pretty sure I have a post in this thread that included a video that explained why the excitement for Anthem has dropped since the game was revealed. It shouldn't be too hard to find an article or video that explains it.

Without watching the video aren't the people in question massive view whores.
They constantly misled and lie without anything to back it up, they might just be saying it's in trouble because of Battlefront etc and jumping on the EA bandwagon.
There's no actual facts to suggest that it's in trouble that I'm aware of.

Re: General Games Discussion
Well, I watched a video a few months ago that provided links to articles explaining the development issues that Anthem has had. From what I recall, one of the top guys developing the game suddenly died. It was claimed that he was irreplaceable. At least one other guy just up and left the team without notice. The game looks cool, but I can't help but feel that it may turn out to be another style over substance type of game. It's definitely not day one for me.

Re: General Games Discussion
The fact that EA *bleep* up everything they touch with their greed is nothing new so I'm expecting the same loot boxes and multiplayer from Anthem once it is released. There is a reason why EA are the most hated publisher in the world.
However, I still think Bioware's excellence at storytelling and character building does make the overall experience worthwhile. At least that has been the case in their previous titles imho.

Re: General Games Discussion
To be clear i consider Bioware that made Mass Effect 2 and before to be dead.
I don't particularly have hype for the game based on that, but i haven't seen anything personally which suggests the game is in trouble other than it's EA being EA.

Not the first time you don't notice these things. I mean, Battlefront 2's microtransactions were no biggie, right?

If you want to i said it was overblown in terms of the star cards impacting gameplay which i 100% stand by, they have close to 0% impact on the game.
Having said that the reaction was completely justified when it comes to game progression and the idea of gambling and all the issues that comes with.
It's funny because the game has some issues which annoy me more which have been completely ignored because of the microtransactions.

I was the one who recommended the original to everyone, when no one seemed to care about it ffs I played it together with my girlfriend since I figured it would be one of those sappy, love story, feelgood type of games. I really didn't expect to enjoy the game as much as I did. I will play Before the Storm eventually, but right now I have tons of VR games that I haven't played yet. I would have played them all by now if VR didn't make my head feel as if I'd literally been through a storm. I spent the entire saturday feeling hungover, after pushing myself through the dizziness and nausea of playing Skyrim VR for an hour

Re: General Games Discussion
Yeah i thought you did.
As a rule i dislike playing games episodically and while i like how the episodic format works for LiS i could never play one episode and then wait what ever length for the next one to come.
That's why i didn't buy this when it was released and play it now, same with original really even if i probably wouldn't have played it if you didn't mention it.

Re: General Games Discussion
Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of the episodic format either (generally speaking). I don't like it in Telltale's games, and I think it's mildly upsetting that Square Enix decided to apply it to their upcoming FF7 remake. But Before the Storm is a must buy for me. It's the only game that I can play together with my girlfriend, who generally doesn't really enjoy games. Speaking of Telltale, I think you'd like A Wolf Among Us. If you ever run out of games to play and manage to find a cheap version of the game, then I recommend getting it. I can't seem to enjoy the more recent Telltale games, which all seem to focus more on interactive gameplay features than storytelling, but The Wolf Among Us is a really good game.
