Well done, Swedes. Gals didn't play well most of this game so I can't have too many complaints about the elimination.

The Sweden coach Pia Sundhage had the fitting reply: "I don’t give a crap," she told reporters after the game. "I’m going to Rio, she’s going home."

Germany were lucky against China - at 1:0, we got a penalty against and the Chinese player hit the post.

In the end the 1:0 was enough to win. Yeah, we were somewhat better, but frankly if the Chinese had scored it would have been our own fault. If you don't score the goals, you can't complain if you are on the receiving end on the other side...

The Swedes do it!  Credit to the Swedish keeper who more or less got close to or saved every shot.  Was unlucky not to save Marta's shot.  The Swedish captian took a perfect PK.

It is strange, but I really dont know what to feel about the next game?  I think I want Kanada to win?

I have to admit, normally I would watch the gals, but Yann Sommer takes precedence, so it's just the ticker for me.

Yay, Gold! The Maracana stadium is a good place to go for German football teams ^^

This Gold Medal was the only title that Germany hasn't won before.

But the Swedes were scary towards the end - this could easily have gone into extra-time and a penalty shoot-out, too!

But now Silvia Neid can retire from the coaching job with a Gold medal - the next big tournament will be with Steffi Jones at the helm.

Congrats to Germany. They were better than us and deserved the gold
