Michy Batshuayi
It appears that the deal to sign Batshuayi is moving extremely fast. Few days ago Batshuayi refused an offer from Crystal Palace, probably waiting for this to come through.
A lot of reports that he is done with his medical and he did it at Bordeaux where his NT is located atm. People from Chelsea flew in to assist
40 millions is the figure, Chelsea are not planning to overspend for another CF like Lukaku and Morata
Announcement might be made today

Remember when Higgy was sold for 40m and people thought that was insane?

Great point, Arsenal fans were having an epidermic reaction thinking about how much it would cost them to sign Higuain.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Remember when Higgy was sold for 40m and people thought that was insane?

Likes of West Ham and Palace bidding for strikers all over Europe while they will end with some Troy Deeney or Charlie Austin level striker.

It's called inflation.
We're constantly getting it all wrong - it's wrong to say something like "Batshuitcrazy is not worth 40m, 20m at best", the right way to put it would be "20m are not worth a Batshuitcrazy anymore, you'll need 40m nowadays".

Here's a thought, as like any government does while counting the gross domestic product, we should have 'Base year' a year in which all the factors in transfer market were near to optimum and compare the current prices to it and substract the increased inflation. Sounds like tough job I know but we do have transfer market experts like Surag who can help us in this project. Let's do something constructive imo.

I wonder if this means Arsenal is never again gonna sign an elite player? Wenger hates over paying, and it seems to be the only way to land a solid player nowadays

The Özil transfer is an example of Wenger 'overpaying' for an 'elite player', as is Sanchez.
And let's not forget the 45m € for Granit Xhaka lol.

Re: Michy Batshuayi
New media contracts that are exponentially bigger than the old ones = exponential rise in transfer prices. Formula isn't that complicated here. Net impact to the clubs is the same. They're sending out the same amount as they're receiving.

Re: Michy Batshuayi
Both Özil and Sanchez have proven to be value for money transfers. Xhaka shortly will be too. I actually like their transfer policy. They overpay only if they deem that player worthy while the other big clubs consistently overspend on trash. Who is this Batshuayi guy again anyway. Arsenal are probably fishing for an opportunity somewhere when a transfer domino effect happens with several big clubs looking to make big moves.

Re: Michy Batshuayi
Batshuayi is only 22 years old and scored 23 goals on an awful OM in a defensive-minded league. Ibra scores a ton... but PSG have an overwhelming talent advantage. None of the other strikers have that kind of advantage in Ligue 1. They get beat up.
40 mil is about right in today's market given his production and age. Super powerful guy. He needs a firm hand though and Conte is the right guy for that.
He's a good finisher already.

But Arsenal was also willing to meet Vardy's release clause, considering his age and given that he's also one of those "one good season players", the jump between him and Batshuayi isn't really that great when you think about it.
But apart from that, I agree. Arsenal has made some great signings over the past few seasons. I think Xhaka is a great signing, I think he'll be a hit.

Re: Michy Batshuayi
Batshuayi hasn't had just 1 great season though.
At age 20, he scored 23 goals for Standard Liege
At age 21, he scored 10 goals while exclusively being a backup to Gignac
At age 22, he scored 23 as a starter for OM once Gignac left
He's consistent. His goal per mins played ratio has been the same for 3 years now.

Fair enough, I won't pretend I know much about him because I don't.. from what I've seen of him he's a promising player and a good finisher. As for the price, this is PL money mixed with inflation and the lack of quality strikers available.

Re: Michy Batshuayi
They perhaps saw a good deal for a relatively cheaper sum on a proven PL striker who was a key part of Leicester's title triumph but unfortunately it dint work out for them. Or maybe fortunately for some Arsenal fans. The jump isn't big yes but i am just assessing their POV on the potential Vardy deal.
Not necessarily saying Arsenal will buy an elite striker but its not like they've missed out on a big elite talent. Still a lot of talented strikers who could potentially be available on the market.

Most definitely could see the reason in the Vardy purchase and I agree about them missing out on Batshuayi not being a massive loss.
Who are the talented strikers available though S? I would love a list because I personally don't think there are many available
Maybe Lacazette?

Re: Michy Batshuayi
Morata and Lukaku off the top of my head.
Lacazette like you mentioned.
Then there's gambles like Milik and Janssen.
I read somewhere Higuain's €94M release clause expires shortly. And he won't sign an extension. He's another option or suppose PSG make a move for him, that could mean Cavani could be available.
There's also less fancied but good options like Gameiro and Bacca. Depends what Arsenal are looking for.
