Griezmann and Pogba benched for Martial and Coman...

I think it's more to get everyone involved in the tournament in case France needs them later. It's not like Martial and Coman aren't great. I also expect one of Matuidi or Kante to be rested against Switzerland so that the players are kept fresh.

In a way, Deschamps is saying that the qualification to elimination rounds is a given and he needs to manage the squad for the real games...

I'm not so sure about this , Pogba was dropped to get Payet in the middle .

This is more about dropping players who don't fit / are underperforming than resting them for bigger games imo .

How do you explain dropping Griezmann too... i don't think that's it farfan. You make the system fit the best starting 11 if you're a good manager.

Deschamps is just managing his squad. I actually feel that Payet will get rested in the next game along with Matuidi or Kante.

Matuidi and Kante can't hold the entire midfield against the better sides. Too thin. Coman/Martial are too young to be counted on tactically to compensate from the wings.

If not, then it's because he was trying to let those 2 know who's boss.

But I agree with you, he's likely resting players and trying to keep guys fresh

France scrapped past Romania with last minute goal and all of a sudden they are resting players in second match?

Only two non performing players in the first match 'rested'? Give me a break. Pogba and griezman got benched for playing poorly, nothing more.
