Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
Müller, Müller, Müller, and Müller.
What, I can't name four players? Okay, I'll narrow it down.
Müller.
I know Robben's looked game changing a couple times, and maybe is, but Bayern are so consistently worse when Müller's not playing that my mates and I are jokingly calling it a Bayern loss whenever he's not starting.
And I don't even get stick from Pep-lovers anymore when I call him incompetent when not fielding Müller.
That kid is pure gold.
Other than that though, Bayern got like 13 players who are incredibly close to each other in utterly sublime skill, that this isn't really a meaningful distinction.

This season of course Lewand, last season was Robben, before he was injured.
Agreed though Muller is still so often underrated. Hes special, and consistent.

If I had a gun to my head, I would probably question where did all go wrong. Also, probably Robben but I really do wonder if Muller is actually their best player.

Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
Robben without a doubt. It's unfortunate that he's injured so much or this wouldn't even be up for debate, IMO.
What?
Robben is a great dribbler, finisher, has some of the best out of the box shooting going, he is constantly causing trouble with his runs and knows how to find open space quite well. On top of this his passing and crossing are underrated because he's such an effective dribbler/goal threat.
Robben is hardly a 'limited' player, and there's no one more effective at their position than him in the world outside of Messi, really. When he's on form he wins games by himself almost. You have to be trolling.
BarrileteCosmico wrote:How can Robben be the best when he is so limited? I'd even take Muller over him and I'm not really a fan of him either.
Neuer for me.
BarrileteCosmico wrote:But are we talking about best or most effective? Because clearly he is an effective player, but I just feel that you have to be more complete to be called the "best". Robben dominates one aspect of the game, dribbling, and can be a useful presser at times, but I'd say there are players at Bayern that excel more at their positions than him.

Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
There's been plenty of times where Muller plays like crap and even misses open goals, makes crap passes and miscontrols in the box where others in the team wouldn't have done.
But sure he's the best because he's extremely intelligent and works hard
Muller is one of the biggest myths in football tbh, also if you are going to state importance which is the only argument you have with Muller tbh then Lewandowski wins every single day of the week and twice on Sunday seeing as they literally have no one to replace him and he's a perfect CF for their style of play.

Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
A year ago I would have said Robben. But he's 32 already, injured again and my understanding is that he's not been having that good a season when fit, by his standards anyway?
Therefore I'll say Lewa.
Therefore I'll say Lewa.

Not everyone rates Muller Hans. And to be more technical, not everyone thinks he is a good footballer.

Independent of system it's between Alaba and Müller. But prime Lahm for the longest time no doubt.

When fit it's between Robben and Lewa.
Douglas Costa has been their biggest difference maker this season though.

Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
Muller not being flashy isn't the problem. It's that he's often standing around and shadowing Lewa all game and I think having a midfielder in his place would be more useful. I'm not a fan of people standing up front in a possession system doing nothing. One striker, fair enough, but not two.
The best place for him would be RW. Thing is though, he's competing with Robben for that spot. It's a bit like Ronaldo having a free role to score goals but not offering anything else.

Robben, probably.
I wouldn't really disagree with anyone saying Muller though.

Well, Navas' first blunder was playing for a club that insists on getting rid of him despite saving them consistently...

sorry what?
Scary to think where Real would be in the table if DDG wouldn't pull of 3-4 crazy saves per game.
He has been immense.

BarrileteCosmico wrote:Yes. He is the definition of a one trick pony.free_cat wrote:Robben limited?
If being 1 footed in your definition, then Maradona & Messi will fall in it.
I like Robben because he is a very complete player who can do it all with his feet even though he is 1 footed. Vision wise he is one of the best in the game though he tends to shoot much more which clouds it, but his combinations, ability to envision passes in tight spaces is second to none. He is obviously very fast & a fantastic dribbler. He is a fantastic long distance scorer as well. He is also a very good crosser of the ball
Another bit I admire is his tactical & football intelligence is one the highest - There is a reason why he has shined from LW to RW to 2nd ST to even ST positions. If people look @ his throws which he makes hurriedly finding weird breakthroughs they would understand. I have not seen many people with such vision & tactical thinking attacking wise in throws.
I am biased I guess but I am giving my viewpoint on why I have a different viewpoint

Re: Who is Bayern's best player?
Due to the fact that Robben is often injured, I would say Lewy or Muller or Neuer.
I am biased but with Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane & a few others Robben is the best player I have seen in 20-22 years.
To me, I have never seen a top team dependent on 1 player as I have seen @ Bayern - From CHL wins to loses, every time a big game comes, Bayern's strategy is to pass the ball to Robben & hope he does some shit.
Barca had Messi & Xaviesta & now MSN, Real had a solid team but in his prime Robben for 1-1.5 seasons had Ribery who was never a great goal scorer & was never put in MOM level performances in top CHL games. I read a stat 1 year back that with Robben Bayern used to get 2.2 points off per game & without him 1.5 points.
He is also possibly the best big game player I have seen with his range of MOM level performances in WC, CHL, vs Dortmund or when we need him!
His 09-10 season was the single greatest season in Club History in the last 20 years IMO dragging Butt-Demichellis-Van Buyten-Braafheid defense to a CHL Final with impossible games.
I am biased maybe because I left watching football for 1-2 years & then I just clicked on 08 in the France-Netherlands match & Arjen was phenomenal & that got me back into the game.

See Muller always plays like shit "technically", I dunno why Viva is making the weird statement - Bayern look much better without him & with a technical player because Muller looks awkward & in the last 1-2 years, his overall game has been poor compared to under LVG or Jupp!
But here is the deal - Muller scores a lot, Muller scores in big matches, He is a big game player, he has balls of steel, he has a killer mentality & he is a fantastic team player. If you add the Bayern youth thing, you will understand the appeal.
He also has an amazing ability to find space & get into scoring positions. Tremendous football IQ & I would always start him in important matches

Handanovic has had plenty of blunders too. Buffon I accept. Maybe add Lloris and Schmeichel to that list.

Handanovic screws up some but to be fair Inter hasn't been particularly tight for a while. He gets exposed a lot but still bails them out.
Buffon has been a beast though. Unreal that he can still be at the top.
Lloris I dont watch. Schmeichel is a good call too.
