this is a division 3 team i'd be surprised if all our players didn't look like a prime X.

They don't, in fact. Gumbau, Kaptoum and Munir are the only positives so far.

I didn't watch this nor did I bother to watch the replay, which is very rare. Can't even remember the last time I didn't watch or rewatch a Barca game. Seems like I didn't miss much anyway.

Don't get all the fuss. Dude stunk up the place against a 3th division opponent. Doesn't deserve promotion at all, just look how much he struggles defensively against total scrubs. Relying on elbowing people, always a step too late, robbed off the ball easily, overdribbling ...  

People hyping him up just because for the past 5 years social media has declared him the "next Xavi" based on nothing but his position and nationality.

we should sell him while he still has the hype, same with munir lol

And because he has a great pass, great dribling and great ball holding skills. More than the next Xavi, I always though of him as the next Busquets though.

It's true that his defending sucks and he is slow, but he improved a lot last season in this regard.

Yeah. He seems to have stalled or even regressed since last season. Kaptoum made a great impression though and showed that he has better control of the ball and understanding of the game imho.

Talking about a teenage, technical, small midfield who isnt god defensively and because of this he is overrated and should be sold.

I personally didn't say he should be sold. Just that I don't get the fuss on social media: "Hurr durr, Lucho, y u no promote Samper", when a very important part of his game is blatantly lacking even against 3th division opponents who are probably part time clerks. Check the scene at 1:06. Like a little kid against men.

I also don't get why these La Masia kids are such sticks. Even the defenders, just look at Bartra who still gets bullied with 25. It's as if they are taking the "technicality over physicality" mantra to such extreme levels they don't even bother about physical training and all they do is rondos.

Samper is 20 now, not 17. He shouldn't struggle against 3th division teams in any aspect of his game. Busquets was bossing a CL final at the same age.

He is a little kid, in football terms and in physique. He is already physically weak and will be even at 25..but you need experience to understand how you get around that weakness in your game and you need to be challenged.

This is youth development.

Comparing to Busquets is rubbish, Busquets even though a twig is 6'2? He has other attributes which can help him, he has a long reach and with his anticpation he can defend well.

You think it is normal that a 20 year old can play in the CL final? Which normal progression is this? Busquets is an anomaly, you would be foolish to judge others by that same standard. Especially those with even less physical tools.

The same criticism of physique you have apply to Munir, and yet he still gets playing time. He is learning more and more what he can and cant do at this level, experience will help him and it already is. You can see he is getting a little bit better in this area.

And overall you argument about Enrique criticism falls apart when he brings Gambau.

I know this debate is less about Samper and more about your irrational support of everything Enrique does.

Maybe it's not "normal" but for Barca standards - we are talking about a top 3 team in the world with aspirations to win the CL every season so we don't want "normal" talent to begin with - you should be able to show a lot more with 20 (21 in 2 months) than Samper does. I don't remember the likes of Götze, Sterling, Martial, Isco, Thiago, Hazard, Verratti, Neymar etc. looking mediocre against 3th division teams at that age and that's the type of talent a club like Barca needs. In fact I have to think long and hard to remember anyone who didn't stand out in 3th division with almost 21 but then turned Barca class a few years later. Which is why I have my doubts about Samper and predict a Deulofeu/Adama future for him. Except that Deulofeu actually ruled the Segunda and all NT youth levels. Samper doesn't even play regularly for Spain U21.

Gumbau is a completely different story and I don't know why people link Gumbau with Samper. Let's accept that Gumbau is an Enrique mistake for a minute. That doesn't make Samper any more deserving of first team minutes.

Also I don't support everything Enrique does. I just don't have much to complain about with his decisions. Maybe what Gumbau is doing in the first team squad but he's hardly getting meaningful minutes and will disappear once Arda can play so it's not as if he rates Gumbau highly. Probably just physically developed enough to fill in in dead rubber games to rest starters.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot. I don't understand why he'd use Adriano and not give Grimaldo a chance who looks as good as gone now. But that's about it.

Players develop at different rates though. You can't forecast how x player will turn out at only 20.. its not happening.
