He was tired for the WC because he started to become lazy and stopped looking after himself.

The saddest thing here is that I feel Maradona only ever reached 80% max of his potential. Had he been on the straight and narrow no footballer would be on his level

Stats wise 04-05 was abysmal, he only finished it strong, which probably helped his Ballon d'Or.

04-05 first 31 rounds he was involved in 3 points out of 69, ended 7/84.

04-05 (9+13)/73 = 29% goals involved, 7/84 = 8% points involved
05-06 (17+16)/80 = 41% goals involved, 16/82 = 20% points involved
06-07 (21+11)/78 = 41% goals involved, 19/76 = 25% points involved
