Seeing all those votes was hilarious. The media was the only one spot on. Everyone else vote for your mate or fav player.
I'm a fan of Pep, but how he got second by such a large margin

Re: The Official Balon d'Or 2015 Thread
one of the periods i hate most in football. just as i dislike the fans voting for all stars in the nba (kyrie irvin played a handful of games, he shouldn't be an all star). anyway, i think people know my feelings towards these awards. but, what bothered me most wasn't the balon d'or. but the fifpro list
our players shouldn't be happy at being on there to be honest. when you have four madrid and four barcelona players, the last clasico shouldn't be a 4 goal rout. it also lends into the argument of this being a popularity contest. and the reason i say these awards, should be held immediately after the season (or summer tournaments end).
not in january, when everyone's forgotten the exploits of other players due to things like loss of form, and we lend the opportunity for over-analysis of stats to take precedence over what we see and experience in real time.
i disagree about players knowing nothing about football. however this is fast becoming a farce with the voting for one's friend. this style was brought in because people were critical about journalists, who often voted based on the competition they called especially as people started listing names of guys who could but never won the award (we all know them, no need to list).
if you really want to keep it with players, enforce a rule saying you can't vote for a teammate from club/country. now if you happen to have left that club, you can still vote for them, it shouldn't be too huge a significance on things. but there's ample time in the summer to give out these awards. the idea of individual awards when the teams are still playing games, and training for matches bothers me

Re: The Official Balon d'Or 2015 Thread
Dunno i think the large amount of retired players turning into pundits who are no better than you or me at that job says they usually know very little tbh.
Always thought journalists were better as they are paid to actually watch and analyze these players, where as players for the most part hardly watch other games and vote for their team mates and most hyped up players in their league and don't get me started on international coaches having a vote.
You would never in a million years get Toure voted in 1st place 5 times with Journalists, i agree on the end of the year thing though. NBA awards are handed out at the end of the season which is what should happen here tbh.
Who cares what happens between August and January lol.

Wish the ceremony was more laid back, kinda like the Golden Globes, maybe bring someone to crack jokes and do a monologue like Ricky Gervais

language barriers would kill that. yes i know, there are translators, but its difficult to get the dialogue involved with stand up based on that. also sometimes things like comics are relevant to specific niches, cultures, peoples etc...not to mention, this being carried out in january may not sit to well with players, the workaholics among them, would just want to get this over with and fly back home to train, instead of having to sit and watch an act that he may have caught with close friends and family
@Great Leader Sprucenuce, i like journalists doing it, i understand why they put it to players. thing is, these days, its more clear cut who the best (or most popular) are....i mean they all play in the same handful of clubs. in times when it seemed there was a wider distribution, it wasn't impossible for journalists to have a bit of bias themselves. but i'll take that bias over players voting....i'd definitely take both over fans voting. i have little care for the balon d'or, but i would never speak on it if they ever got fans to vote.....i can imagine certain people here (i won't list names), forging multiple user names or getting (forcing) their family members to help vote for their favorite man-crush (not that there's anything wrong with that.....to quote seinfeld)

They hired a comedian ( i think?) to host the ceremony today, and a lot of his jokes just flew over the audience's head. It's difficult to crack jokes in another language and have it directly translated to others.

I think they should make the votes secret at least. After all, then players/coaches wouldn't be forced to vote for their buddies.

Congrats to Messi and Harmonica for a record 5th balon d'Or. We are seeing the greatest player of any era. We are truly fortunate.
Also big respect for Ronaldo to attend Balon d'Or ceremony in between shooting his movie sequel.

Ramos getting into FIFA best XI again
What is this like 5 times in a row this clown gets in with absolutely zero merit.

Real Madrid are the masters of hype and marketing. Ramos getting in there isn't even the biggest hilarity. Navas and Casillas top 5 goalkeepers while Navas was on the bench the entire last season and let's not even talk about Casillas. Ronaldo getting 30 % of the votes. 30 % of voters thinking Ronaldo was the best player in the world in the past year. If Madrid actually had the same success on the pitch as Barca their Castilla team would get into these XIs.

Its not our fault your team is full of despicable players. Like who would want to vote for calamity Pique or the vampire. Having one knobhead (Alves) is enough

Lahm says that there's no way players and coaches from all 209 countries have done an extensive analysis on all candidates. "So instead they vote for those they have noticed the most. The most visible, noticeable players, not necessarily the best."
"The award is an attacker's award anyway, as the history of winners shows. It shouldn't be a marketing award."
