Re: Barclays Premier League 15-16 Discussion-v1
Premier League set against proposed increase to required number of homegrown players in squads:
http://news.sky.com/story/1511032/premier-league-set-to-reject-new-homegrown-quota
"It's a global league, the clubs want to attract the world's best talent, the only route to improving homegrown players is through a qualitative route, through better facilities, better coaching, better access time, as opposed to artificially."
This man gets it

HEIL MEIN REDS wrote:Arsenal are not competing for the title unless they sign another striker ! I would say, if Arsenal had not signed Cech but Benzema, I would have surely considered them favorites along with Chelsea but only with Cech they will come close to challenging but will *bleep up* as usual
Kinda agree.
Arsenal however creative and cool that team is on paper with the likes of Cazorlas and Ramseys and sanchezes and Ozils, at the end of the day it will be down to the form of their CF. In this case Giroud. He was exceptional last season's end. If he maintain that, then Arsenal will be legit.
We have seen in the past goonies absolutely destroying teams one week playing fapworthy stuff and then in the next week failing to break down defenses and succumbing to draws thanks to their 1 dimensional style.
And its a tricky situation for them I guess as it will be unfair to now go for a new better striker and relegate giroud to backup.
His form does deserve a start.
Same with Coquelin.
Acquring Cech is a masterstroke. But then arsenal even last season dropped more points (in the 1st half of the season) to draws than to defeats, didnt they ?

Re: Barclays Premier League 15-16 Discussion-v1
We ballsed up at the start of last season since Wenger was fiddling around with the shape of the team and we only had three centre backs, where Mertesacker was just coming back from the World Cup, Koscielny had a recurring achilles problem and Chambers was only 19. Had we a settled formation and backline from the start we probably wouldn't have finished as far away as we did.
Goals aren't really much of an issue, either. Ramsey missed a lot of last season because of a dodgy hamstring, and Walcott was out the team for a while too. That's two guys who can get into double figures for goals, on top of Alexis and Giroud. We do need an extra bit of quality to give us an edge in bigger games, but there's a very limited number of available strikers that'd be a definite upgrade on Giroud.

The big games and few tricky games are the ones where you will lose title. Of course, you dont have to win every big game to win the title but still I would say that you need extra bit of quality to make difference in those 4-5 games to get three points !!

Re: Barclays Premier League 15-16 Discussion-v1
Sky have announced the televised fixtures of the first 3 months.
Stoke vs. Liverpool moved to Sunday the 9th.
Now instead of watching it at Helsinki with Art, I'll have to wait it at hostel next to the Kremlin in Moscow

I see the usual Arsenal for the title hype got started nicely. Strangely from non Arsenal fans but that's irrelevant.

It's mostly Hans, so when we experience our usual fck up he's the first one I'm blaming.
Aston Villa vs Manchester United on Aug 14th will be the first Friday night game of the season. That's going to be weird.

Blaming Hans for your club's and cricket team's woes should be really part of the GL constitution.

Imagine thinking Arsenal will win the League. Diego Costa, Oscar, Hazard, Courtois, Azpilicueta & Cesc pretty much walked the League last season & are only going to get better from here on out.

I think Matic has a better chance of getting better than the likes of Oscar(who was benched most important matches) and Cesc who is already in his prime.

Re: Barclays Premier League 15-16 Discussion-v1
it will be close, the Gunners will have a fully fit Walcott back on deck, and no doubt costa's hammy will give way eventually like it always does...
i doubt Wenger tinkers with the system too much, so we won't drop as many points at the start hopefully, and if We bring in another WC player it could be well on in the Title race.
Plus the Gunners will have break out player Gedion Zelalem who will basically leave his mark on the club a bit like Fabregas

Re: Barclays Premier League 15-16 Discussion-v1
Raymond Domenech recently said this about Hugo Lloris:
I have no decision to take for him, but in my opinion he has to play in Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City, to play in the European Cup. Tottenham is a big club – it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can't really see the difference with Tottenham.
For me, it's Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City. Because I think Manchester United is no more a big club, in England, for me. I think like that.
