Bayern München Legends: Gerd Müller

Do you think he is Underrated All time great. IMO he was born in wrong era. We have some world best player who just tap-in a goal, and still regarded as the best. Müller didn't even take that much of penalties as far as i know. If he was born in this era he probably would have been regarded as a better player.Think about it, his game to goal ratio is just out of this world.

He's the Cronaldo of Cruyff, and yes he would be considered better today. He won 1 Ballon d'Or for 3 of Cruyff, yet he's better than Cronaldo and Messi is better than Cruyff. That's the only proof you need.

Good Point. As a Goal scorer Muller was better than Cristiano. But C.Ronaldo edge him other aspect of the game.

Goal scoring is the only aspect of his and Cronaldo's games.

Well, Gerd Müller was not only European Champion (1972) and World Champion (1974) with Germany, he also won the Bundesliga 4 times, DFB Pokal 4 times, European Cup Winners Cup once, European Cup (now Champions League) 3 times, Intercontinental Cup (now Club World Cup) once and a couple of further honours...

His main "problem" was that he played before the media was all over the place and before the internet with all the hype. And he was a very down to earth and modest guy who put the team first and not a vain attention seeker for his own glory.

What i have seen [his matches] from DVD and various sources,he was very intelligence player, one of the best ever in this regard. His of the ball movement was best world have ever seen. Big fun of his. I wish he played this era.And yes he was really down to the earth guy. Highest level of "team player".

He's not underrated in Germany. Best striker I've ever seen.

You must have seen a lot of Cruyff to say that Messi was better. From most anecdote and video Cruyff was much more influential and better than Messi at the 1974 WC (compared to Messi at the 2014 WC).

Müller is underrated. He wasn't a simple poacher at all. Not everyone who isn't a playmaker is automatically a poacher.

Slightly underrated. He seems like a player barely anyone mentions when people collect goat strikers but no one would ever think about complainin when he's brought up. Kind of strange imo.
He's still regarded as one of the greatest goalscorers and strikers of all time.

Anyway regarding wrong era and such - both Cruijff and Beckenbauer were simply better.

I agree, they were mostly more complete. But if people bring up R9 in a best-evar-debate, and they do, it's IMHO completely fair to fire the Müller at them. That goal threat, combined with actually pretty good link-up play... Unreal player.
