I also remember watching Baggio in Brescia and wished i discovered football a few years earlier. Berkamp at arsenal was beautiful beyond discription.
Top 3 peaks: Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Messi
Top 3 careers: Messi...........everyone else

also it points to another flaw in the definition. many players had been fantastic at their peak but their peak very short lived. so the question is, do you really want to compare the ability of a player in peak regardless of how long that ability lasted...

You can always tell how much people are when they start saying Dinho is the best
Dinho is severely ovverated. He really is a poor man's Maradona in every aspect of the game. His peak was nowhere near Messis or R9s. Go and find the top teams he elevated his game against and compare them to Messis and he would be embarrassed.

That's how I understood the thread yes.
Why not?
One year, one game of absolute magic is something to appreciate too, no?

The question was also "that you've seen".
If I say Ronaldinho I don't mean to lay claim to any standing written in stone.
I'm just saying that he was a player that, for me, was incredibly entertaining AND impactful too in his best games, and compared to R9, for example, I've seen quite more of these games so that's my personal candidate.
Those discussions of who REALLY OBJECTIVELY is the best are so incredibly tiring, what's wrong with infusing it with personal feelings and impressions?

well, ofcourse thats appreciable but thats not my point. my point is whether the comparison with another who had longer time in peak is valid..specially when you are going claim him "best". but i fully agree individuals impression should be respected...

Look, jibers, you are one of the knowledgable posters in this forum, I felt that your posts in the old goal.com forum was very well thought.
However, I don't know if it coincides with you "playing around" more, or this is who you really are, I think when you are hyping one guy, you often attack the other guy compared to him.
Anyway, onto the topic, Ronaldinho is my favorite player, and it's not just because he did the most tricks. He was actually really effective in the biggest games. What he did in his prime against AC Milan, Chelsea, and Real Madrid the several times they played against was incredible for me. He was many times the stand-out player of those ties. I didn't really watch/remembered him destroying the smaller teams, as here his matches were played at dawn, yet what he did in what I reckon as big games was excellent.
Oh and anyway, Adriano at that same era of course have a say, OP. He was rightly so called the Emperor

I agree largely with those saying Messi, Dinho etc, but for me personally...Totti's play at his absolute peak was just something else entirely.
At his peak, he was truly most artistic footballer I've had the pleasure of watching. From the delightful chips to stunning long-range strikes to the cheeky passes to the improbably and impudent finishes from nearly anywhere in the final third...he was truly intoxicating to watch for me. Very hard to explain beyond that. It's a Roma thing I guess.

Anyway good to see some people still remember Ronaldino. Tbh i really didn't see that much of Adriano [for example week in week out for one year ]but from what i have seen , i think Ronaldo, Eto, Henry etc were better to me.

Yes Totti was incredible. Rivaldo was also superb. Valeron, Shevchenko, Redondo, Nedved, Litmanen, etc. There are quite a few players with amazing peaks in the time that we lived in.

Batigol should have left Fiorentina earlier. Put him in Madrid or Barca as the #9 now and he would get 60 goals a season. His hard accurate strikes have only been replicated by CR And CRsare nowhere near as consistent.

He'd be a monster.
Strong as a Bull, deceptively quick, shot power off the charts, his strong aerial presence......
I miss him.

For me the besthe I've ever seen is Ryan Giggs both on and off the pitch he scored goals home and away. I hope he gets knighted for his services (:

Same with a lot of what ppl have said, firstly R9, then Messi. These two clearly above the others when they are at their best. R9 is a striker and a freak both technically and physically, Messi is more all round, able to play as creator/midfield as well.

Re: Who is the best Player you have ever seen in his absolute best?
The two best players I watched in person at games were Johann Cruyff and Diego Maradona. Maradona once, Cruyff several times. I am dating myself, I know. From what I have seen on TV, I believe that both are equal to Messi or Ronaldo, if not better. Cruyff had an amazing acceleration he would run past defenders in a straight line.

Re: Who is the best Player you have ever seen in his absolute best?
Ronaldinho wowed me differently then Messi does
Ronaldinho did stuff with a ball at full speed I didn't think was possible that with all his other tricks
Messi wow's me in a more tactical way, less flash but so effortless at what he does
that said
Ibrahimovic is probably my favourite non United player ever
