Argentina without Messi
Why is Banega taking free kicks?

Embarassing defending in the 2nd goal...
Argentina scored but it was so fluky it didn't even make me happy.
I would be interested to see Di Maria's pass accuracy for today. I'm going to guess -10%.
How has Di Maria survived 2 changes? I thought Lamela and Biglia were playing much better than him.

2-2.
Otamendi corner goal.
Shitty defending on our side.

Otamendi balancing act, makes us concede 1, scores another.
Romero has been awful today. Almost conceded another.

Honestly I'm kind of shocked Venezuela hasn't scored in the past 5 minutes. So many errors...

FT 2-2.
Good game on our side, not a bad result considering. Our defense is so limited, though
Amateur mistakes game after game. I guess the overall solidness makes up for it.
I laugh at the people who say Messi doesn't do anything at NT level. This was a game he would have thrived in. Argentina looked far too sluggish for their usual level.

TBH, our overall game has improved immensely ever since our new manager was appointed. That 4-0 would have been realistic had the ass we had for a coach been still there.
On other news, Brazil drawing Colombia 1-1 at HT.

Goal Canada! 1-0 leading El Salvador
4 more goals swing between Canada - El Salvador and Mexico - Honduras is needed!
Hope lives on!

Ah, so there is still hope for Canada, I had thought they were already out.
In other Concacaf news USA wins their group with an easy 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago. Pulisic became the youngest USA player to start a game for the national team.
And Neymar just gave Brazil the lead over Colombia

Re: World Cup 2018 Qualifiers Discussion
We're looking a lot better with Tite (I guess that's pretty obvious) but we still have problems in midfield with Renato Augusto and Paulinho. I don't know why Allan from Napoli or Fred from Shaktar don't get a chance but it's hard to be too critical of Tite because of our huge improvement and it's only his second game in charge. I'd become a lifelong fan of Klopp if he could turn Coutinho into a proper center mid but I think that's asking too much. I also hope that Thiago Maia doesn't join Chelsea's loan army. He's got talent but he needs more stability than that.
Still, Colombia and Ecuador in Quito are no joke so a very promising start for Tite.

I thought Paulinho and Renato were both pretty amazing in these 2 games.

Maybe I'm nitpicking a bit but to me the problem is that in Tite's 4-3-3 the two center mids get forward quite a lot and they both missed plenty of really good chances to put the game away.

I think Fernandinho is still good enough to start. Would prefer to have him over Paulinho and Renato.

Last competitive game Argentina lost with Messi during 90 min was against Venezuela 12.10.11, almost 5 years ago. During this time they only lost in ET to Germany WC final, and two SO losses to Chile in CA finals. #Dark Knight

In the last 10 years Argentina have lost 4 finals with Messi. Meanwhile, they have lost no finals without him
