A lot of the appeal about coaching like Zidane and Laudrup is watching them now at 50 etc. still having better technique than anyone on the team.
Also getting really tired of newspapers making this sort of controversy generating clickbait. It's tiresome.
It's especially bad in sports and entertainment "news"

Should’ve made more out of the chance, but that was a neat little turn and nutmeg. He needs to get his confidence up after two poor showings with the national team.

He's looked a bit off since the international break started, and this wasn't his best of performances, but he showed flashes of brilliance and scored another goal against PSV Eindhoven.

I personally find he doesn't do much covering on the wings defensively so if he comes to Madrid and anyone sees that, you've been warned.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
I’m sorry to say this, but I believe his chances with Madrid are down to slim and none. With the club bring in Hazard, Jovic or a RW plus Rodrygo, there isn’t any room for him, as it looks now the backup spots have Vinicius, Lucas, Mariano or Raul de Tomas, Rodrygo, Asensio in contention with 1 or two of them likely to go or be loaned out or confined to Castilla. I can’t see Odegaard even getting enough minutes in training camp to break into this lot!
It’s a shame really, but that’s the reality!

I agree with both of you. I hope we sell him.

The video doesn't even include all of his highlights of the season. I've been particularly impressed by his freekicks and set piece deliveries for Vitesse. Those tend to not be appreciated as much as goals and flashy tricks, come end of season. I do hope he goes to Ajax in the summer.

Probably true though, when Ziyech inevitably goes this summer Odegaard would slot in perfectly. Also rumors of him going to Dortmund.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
I've been actually watching Vitesse matches and I honestly believe selling Odegaard is gonna be a bad decision. A decision which the club would recover from (duh) but a bad decision nonetheless.
For the very least, the club should put a buy back clause on him. Also, I actually rather him than Asensio. A lot.

Doc, if Rodrygo develops as Vinicius, Asensio’s days with club are numbered. Odegaard just didn’t develop fast enough when there were spots available. Bad luck, bad timing plus the deal his father paid with club, didn’t help him!

Asensio won't be sold. He is part of the club's future.
Plus Zidane really likes him.
And you can't sell everyone who's not in the starting 11. You need a team.
On Odegaard, I'd send him to ajax on a two year loan. Once Madrid can get Van de beek in the deal.

perfect club for him tbh. 2-3 seasons at ajax and the big clubs will be begging him to come.Thimmy wrote:The video doesn't even include all of his highlights of the season. Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
I'm reading that Ajax want Ødegaard, and Marc Overmars will go into negotiations with Real Madrid soon, but Real Madrid don't want to sell without a buyback clause. Marca claim that a sale won't happen. I wish he was allowed to leave us, already. Should've picked Ajax or Liverpool when he had the chance to do so.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
He really shouldn’t have. He’s already made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life.
Real Madrid was the guarantee to do that. Career wise he might’ve fared better though. But that’s not a risk I’d be willing to take. It’s better to go on loan for him to ajax.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
He grew up in a wealthy family, so money was never an issue for him. I know some people on here said he was in it for the money, but that's just people believing what they want to believe
But yeah, I suppose he won't have to worry about money anytime soon. I do think it would have sped up his development if he hadn't joined us, though. He said himself, that he'd prefer if he didn't have to go out on another loan, as he'd like to have some stability. It makes sense. Going to a different club every season isn't exactly optimal circumstances.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
I think it's a good thing bouncing around while he develops and adapts to different leagues, opponents and teammates. At the very least it will make him super adaptable to different circumstances, which is basically the norm playing in Madrid. So if he does actually make it back, he'll have had different experiences instead of spending a few years in the same team before getting bored and wanting to move on. With each loan move he seems to be moving to a better team, so I don't think there's anything to be said about stunting his development. If anything, he's had more stability than he would have had with us, and gotten to play in better leagues than he would have with Castilla. If not Ajax, it would be awesome getting him back to Spain to start re-acclimatising to life in Madrid. Getafe with their CL season coming up is the obvious choice for anyone we want to send out on loan.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
I'm sure he's adapted to the dutch league, by now. He hasn't really bounced around different environments much, he's just gone from a club to another over two years. The step up in quality wasn't all that substantial, and I can't imagine jumping from one team to another after one season is a positive practice in terms of developing a player. Anyway, he himself said that he would prefer if he didn't have to move around so often anymore. You don't get much time to settle down with a team over the course of a year. If not a sale, a longer loan spell with a club of Ajax' stature would be preferable. The likes of Herenveen and Vitesse simply aren't good enough to challenge his competence.

Re: Martin Ødegaard discussion
The way I see it, this summer Real Madrid or rather Flo and Zidane need to make up their mind? Will he be part of team or not? With all the changes expected, particularly in regards to AMs (Hazard coming in, Isco, Maybe Asensio, even Ceballos (as Zidane seems to think of him more of a AM) all leaving and Brahim likely on loan), I doubt if the answer will be positive. That plus they seldom play a configuration needing more than one AM.
If that’s the case, then they should let him go. If they want to hang on to him for another year or so, they could loan him to Getafe, but IMO, they would be better served to sell him to Ajax with a buy back option!
And for him going to Ajax, a possible CL champion is infinitely better than going to a team that flukes its way to a first round knockout in CL!

I agree, I think for the sake of Odegaard they just need to sell him now. Possibly put in a buy back option, but just let him go.
He's clearly not in the plans, so let's invest the money we can get for him into someone who is.

Real Madrid have turned down an approach for Ødegaard by Leverkusen. I wonder what their plan is. Are they just loaning him out again? I wonder if he'll end up on loan at Man Utd

I don't know if this is accurate. The rumours in Spain are that we gave him a pick of his club. My understanding was that Leverkusen made an offer, and so did La real sociedad which I think he visited last weekThimmy wrote:Real Madrid have turned down an approach for Ødegaard by Leverkusen. Ajax did, as well, and they were reportedly rejected more than once.
