Re: Better Call Saul
I literally lol'd at Chuck's scene when he gets out for the newspaper, the neighbour just watching , I love Vince Gilligans twisted humor.
Nacho/Jimmy scene was the best in this episode, he's not done with Jimmy yet and I reckon he's the link where Jimmy will get his criminal clients.

Does it make any sense to watch this if one hasn't watched BB?
I know I have to watch BB at some point but I can't bother with the committment right now.

Nope. That shouldn't matter, at all. You'll probably miss out on a few references, and some characters that act differently in BB - but other than that, it shouldn't make any difference.

Re: Better Call Saul
Finally caught up.
Must say it has the exact BB vibe to it and you can see this is Gillegan's work. My main problem with BB was that the writers focused too much on the writing technique and then that worked its way over to the execution of the show. The symbolism, foreboding and all those stuff are great, I love it, but the character care from the viewer's point of view should take precedence. And as it happened I found myself not caring much for Walter or Jesse in BB. Some emotional edge was lacking. Hope they get that part right in Better Call Saul.
Everything's going well at the moment. A bit of slow build and lack of action is expected like Tom pointed out earlier in this thread, because that's the norm for almost every show out there these days. The only thing is though I don't think its necessary to bring all this side-stories at once. I mean what we have atm is Jimmy McGill trying to make his way as a lawyer. The Chuck story. Jimmy's altercation/feud with the other law firm guy. We have Mijo. We have Nacho. We have Mike. And that's all within 5 episodes. It's sometimes better to just set it off with the basic and main storyline, add one or two side-stories to the first few episodes of course and then later on integrate all the other characters and what they will eventually bring to the story.
Don't know about the best show on tv claims going on here atm, but so far so good. Liking it

This show is really, really good. Like really amazing and has exceeded my expectations.
Loved every episode so far.
Has it all so far- great writing, great pacing, great cinematography, score, great characters and mixed with some good humour.
In the latest episode- that perverted invention that guy made for his sons potty training

Re: Better Call Saul
Holy shit I have to catch my breath. This was the best episode of the series so far. Jonathan Banks just got nominated for an Emmy.
That acting.
"I broke my boy"
That dialogue.
"It's like killing Caesar, where everyone's guilty."
That cinematography.
https://i.imgur.com/uoogl8N.jpg
What an episode. Made the character of Mike even GOATer. I was saying this show did not have a BB level acting performance yet and then Jonathan Banks delivered. The drunk acting and the crying was perfect. Mike's daughter in law can act too. Amazing storytelling on Mike's son's death and Mike's revenge. It makes sense on why Mike grew so close to Jesse too. The gunfight was awesome. Flawless performance from Mike and the realism+cinematography really sold it.
Even though the episode had minimal Saul, he still delivered.
"Mayor didn't give you enough stickers?"

Re: Better Call Saul
That was one hell of an episode..... AMAZING.
One of the best episodes I've seen ever and I've watched a lot of amazing episodes.
Mikes confession was heartbreaking, the writers are amazing in their storytelling, the way they switch from flashbacks smoothly and fair play to Bob Odenkirk and Kerry Condon for keeping the acting level on par with Jonathan Banks who was incredible.

[Insert praise for Better Call Saul here]
That was a really good episode again, I love to hate Betsy, Mike breaking in people's houses Breaking Bad style
I felt really sorry for Jimmy in the last scene, I know how that shit feels. That feel when you know that what you're doing is wrong for YOU, but will help and make someone you like appreciate you.

The guy in the bathroom is the same guy who builds the magnet in Breaking Bad

And per insider podcast, it's actually the same character and just the extra.

Re: Better Call Saul
It's obvious that Chuck's firm will pick this case up, and will push Jimmy/Saul aside. I thought the cake scene at the start of the episode was hinting to it. If that happens I can see Saul being born.
Hopefully chuck realises that it's a psychological problem. Also think he's bit of a piece of shit, as if a named partner cant help his brother get a grad laywer job.

Re: Better Call Saul
I don't think Chuck even tried to get Jimmy the job, in fact I'm convinved he made sure Jimmy didn't get it because in his mind hiring the former 'Slippy Jimmy' could risk the reputation of the firm.

LMFAO AT TREVOR PHILIPS, didn't see that coming! Really really hope we've not seen the last of him. Mike is a freaking boss but we already knew that. Turns out Howard isn't so bad after all, he's just a bit of a dick.
Dat ending doe, knew Chuck was a piece of shit. I hope Chuck doesn't die this season and gets over his sickness, the actor is very good and can make a good antagonist. Bob Odenkirk was amazing in the last scene.
Finale next week and then Game of Thrones!!!

Re: Better Call Saul
Trevor ffs The joy I had when I saw him. 50 years later I will tell my grandchildren about the legend of Trevor Phillips. And that pill seller guy looked like Lester ffs That GTA reunion. And what a boss Mike is ffs. Wished Trevor and Vaas had screentime together though.
Chuck turning heel I never thought that Saul Goodman would turn out to be such a sympathetic character. Really felt bad for him. Great acting from Odenkirk. Kudos to him and the writers.

I would cry tears of joy if Trevor was a recurring character down the line.

Also Mike's good criminal/bad criminal dialogue basically summed up Breaking Bad.

Steven Ogg, ffs. STEVEN OGG, not Trevor Phillips.
It's awesome that Steven Ogg appeared on the show, but you got my hopes up for nothing. Giving Trevor Philips an integral part in the show would've been beyond awesome, but from the looks of it, it was just a cameo appearance by Steven Ogg

Well, that's the best way they can do it to justify and emphasise his "breaking bad". But I think you know that alreadyM99 wrote:I never thought that Saul Goodman would turn out to be such a sympathetic character. Really felt bad for him. Great acting from Odenkirk.
