Same thing with him imho, Modric didn't just become shit overnight, it's the symptom of Madrids disease their playmakers look shitty, I don't think it's their fault. Isco and James not living up to the hype as well. It's because of selfish wingers and meh strikers.

(All critique keeping in mind the level of play Madrid suck at, which would still be really freaking awesome for most other clubs)

It's not like he was forced to go to Madrid. He instinctively knew his lazy arse style would be a good fit there.

Thank god he got injured in that Juve CL quarter. Else we wouldn't have won the thing. With him on the pitch, we rather looked like losing to Juve right there and then.

Modric doesn't get the same excuse though, because in Spurs he regularly choked against the better teams.

I don't pretend to watch Madrid regularly or much at all but in England he regularly played like crap when it mattered most, i mean Alex Song used to give him the business regularly

At least Kroos actually performed against the best before Madrid signed him so you can apply that to him but with Modric i don't see it as being the case.

He's another one of these fresh faced midfielders who apparently can play like crap and nobody will say a word.

It's Odd what has happened to him no? When he came to madrid his first few months, he was glorious in midfield, playing pivot like a boss. The with time he has become completely ridiculous, it's almost shocking how bad he looks off the ball now.

No matter how glorious he looked the first months, it was always the wrong position for him and I've said so many times.

He's not a 6, least of all a DM, he's an 8 or a 10.
In those positions, he's got no time and space to become lazy and uncreative, and is forced to make use of his actual qualities.
In those positions, he can press rather than having to defend.

Real have ruined him tbh, but he quite obviously wanted to be ruined that way.

All due respect, even when Benitez had him playing as 8 with casemiro as 6, he looked mediocre. ad kudos for benitez for giving casemiro a chance. Now is time to bring him back for good in the team lol

Except after the first part of his career with Madrid which were admittedly tough, he's been a mainstay of the Madrid midfield and Madrid fans have enjoyed him. He's been a good player for them. Him not showing up in big games, meh, personally disagree but you're entitled to your opinion.

Fact of the matter is it's the same thing with both Kroos and Modric. You can't put them together in the midfield with a Benzema who isn't tracking back much, Marcelo who bombs forward as it is, and Bale and Ronaldo who don't look interested in defending. They were both outnumbered today and I would say that the timing of this thread is hopefully more about how he's (Kroos) performed during the season, NOT tonight's game where both Modric and Kroos were set up for failure by Benitez.

That's not to say they both weren't bad tonight, they were, but what do you expect? Completely outnumbered in the midfield. They were drowning out there after Rafa sent them out with no lifeboat. Shocking managing.

"Fresh faced midfielders who can play like crap and get away with it" do you remember how much Modric was slammed when he first got to madrid?

seriously the team is very unorganized and a lot of players don't defend or make themselves available as a outlet, but him a lone is the problem or average? modric hasn't been much better either yet he get the free pass cause of his dribbling ability like isco, this mentality of singling out players is stupid, when your overlooking the conditions their playing under.
