They arent as solid defensively these days. Godin has regressed and Miranda can't be handheld anymore. Enjoyed Celta and Valencia tearing them a new one. Also soon Mandzukic will be replaced. He hasn't been too good since he signed for them

When teams do the bare basics of just shutting the wings Atleti will be useless. They can't play any other way

Don forget about Villarreal. Vietto skilling Godin was delicious

Griezmann is actually pretty good in the air... have seen him score headers pretty regularly over the years. Gets up really high and has a natural instinct for finding open areas. Brave too as he doesn't mind battling it out in there if necessary.

Atleti are better balanced this year imo. Griezmann, Mandzukic, Jimenez and now Torres more than make up for losing Costa. They're on pace to concede 31 goals right now as opposed to 26 last season... so they're not too far off on defense either. To me, the keeper is not as good as Courtois more than anything else.

Takes a while to get the new guys comfortable and now they're rolling. Last year's team didn't have any new guys coming in that i recall.

Very dangerous team. I think their best play is ahead of them.

Jimenez barely plays and will probably get loaned out either now or in the summer, wouldn't be surprised if Godin has scored as many as Mandzukic, Torres . Simeone doesn't trust Griezmann against the big teams. He is their biggest goal threat though

Atletico's weapon has always been their ability to shut out teams and prevent them from getting chances. Its complete opposite this season. In fact they have Moya to thank for alot of their wins

Mostly away hala and that's changed now... Griezmann wasn't used to defending that hard and needed to learn Atleti's system. Simeone likes to get more defensive against the better sides away. Also wants the extra size on set pieces.

I think that's changed now. Griezmann is making it impossible to keep him on the bench at any time.

I agree. Griezmann is playing unreal right now but Simeone is Simeone and will have no problems bencuing him for that scrub Garcia so they can play hoofball to him all game

That's nothing, you haven't followed the 11/12 season where strikers were getting called offside in their own half against Madrid.

how was that not a penalty ? you guys want referees to stop calling penalties just because you think madrid is getting too much of them ?

It was a close call, the other one where Ronaldo missed the chance after was a 100% penalty, and no way Harmonica wouldn't bring it up, if it happened to Barca.

Only one tackle on either was a yellow. The one on Ronaldo was legit enough.

Ramos - Handball
Isco - Multiple free kicks
Gaya - entering pitch too early
Mustafi – sliding tackle on Ronaldo
Parejo - obstructing and tripping the keeper
Alcacer - can't really remember that one
Perez - a lot of complaining

ramos , the more volatile piece of madrid's defense , got a yellow for absolutely nothing .
the guy who almost decapitated bale before the penalty got nothing .

the yellow tackle on Ronaldo was clearly the ball, the one on Marcelo was a dive and then Perez got the yellow for complaining.

marcelo didn't dive ..

the third replay clearly shows it .

It's like this every single game for everyone in La Liga. You can't complain to referess when you aren't the captain or else you'll get booked. Valencia's own fault, they got some iffy yellows, but should have gotten some yellow on challenges earlier. You win some you lose some.

sure, if you complain like that you can't be surprised about a yellow. On the other hand I can't fathom how frustrating it must be to play against serial divers getting their way every time.
