NEW OFFICIAL: PSG sign Di Maria

PSG offered 60 mil for Di Maria.... which is overpaying already  They just didn't want to pay 75.  And you guys think that shows weakness?  

And yes, they did need a CB.  Silva is injury prone and he's psychologically rattled too now after the WC.  Camara, Marquinhos and Alex were going to get them nowhere.  Given the price paid for Mangala, etc., 50 mil isn't that bad unbelievably.  Luiz isn't the best...  but he's just as good as Ramos

It's hard to judge how good your squad is this early in a WC year when most of your players went to the WC...  no preseason.  Most of these guys are playing their 3rd or 4th game literally.  It's going to be preseason for about 3-4 weeks. To boot, Ibra got injured. I think PSG is just fine as it is. There was no area of need really; but the defense cost them the CL. Aurier and Luiz bolsters that group.

60m for Di Maria is overpaying while these idiots went and paid 50m for David Luiz

In today's market, 75 mil for di maria is not overpaying. he would have become their second most important player after Ibra. Di Maria outplayed every madrid players on our way to the CL, he was a legit top 10 players, and he is in his prime.

Luiz is garbage, it doesnt take a genius to see that someone like Benatia is a better player. Does fundamental defending much better, and he is a leader. That price for Luiz was comical.

- Mangala - 40 mil euros
- Lovren - 25 mil euros

- Vermaelen - 18 mil euros
- Benatia is going to cost 50 mil

Barca were willing to pay 38 million for Marquinhos too... but PSG refused.

Now, other than perhaps Benatia (although that's questionable), Luiz is better than all of them.

Di Maria showed up for 6 months last season Nick and you know it... he was on his way out in the winter transfer window but we couldn't get Juve to sell either Vidal or Pogba to us; so we had to keep him. Before that, he was very, VERY inconsistent.

It's only Madrid peeps that think 6 months of good play = 75 million. Most sane people don't think like that

Anyways, DiMaria is due to arrive at 6:20 and have his medical this evening. He will sign his contract tomorrow due to the bank holiday and will be ready against Burnley on Tuesday

Than those guys?  Yes i would.  I just had a problem when Gil was saying he was the best CB in the EPL and one of the best in the world  He is not.  But he is in the top 10...   just like Ramos.  They just make idiotic plays every once in a while.

Top 10 CB in the world... absolutely.  Name 10 that are better. I can name 6 and the 7-10 is arguable with Luiz in that later group.

It's how this stuff works, you know damn well if he went to PSG then Sports would have found a way to justify it.

DiMaria was excellent before that, he had one bad months between mid December and mid January when he was booed. Apart from that he was very good. Real Madrid as a team played better when he was moved to CM because of him which is why people attribute our success to him. That doesn't mean he was only good for that period. The only reason he was on the out was because Bale came back from injury then and we knew DiMaria wouldn't accept the bencg after hus performances. Sometimes I wonder whether people have short term memories smfh

Marquinhos wasnt rated higher, his "talent" was, which is pretty stupid.

Probably because Benatia was playing for Udinese and Marquinhos was playing for Roma.

Roma players tend to get hyped more than Udinese players.

Their only competition is PSG who were hamstrung by FFP and probably rejected by Di Maria

Benatia was doing great for Udinese, Marquinhos was part of one of the worse defences in the league

People hyped him up to 10x his current level because he's 'young' and people these days prefer 'potential' that may or may not even exist to the degree they think it does, as opposed to current ability.

No. I'm saying that PSG had Silva, 2 scrubs and a kid who is not ready for CL at CB. They also had Van Der Wiel and Jallet at RB. So they had to cover themselves there and it was a MUST.

At the forward spots... Ibra and Cavani are auto starters. Then you have Lavezzi, Lucas and Pastore fighting it out for the last forward spot. It's crowded there just like it's crowded in the midfield. It wasn't a must.

I can understand PSG overpaying to cover a position that was thin and with Alex out of contract and aging... Jallet was leaving too AND Van Der Wiel has hamstring injury issues.

You overpay when there's urgency or when there's a superstar. You don't overpay like crazy when you're ok in a position.

As i remember it, most people were hyping him as being the second best young defender behind Varane at the time... in fact, some people were rating him higher since he was a regular.

And all of that was to do with his supposed 'potential' I.E what he could be in 7 years time.

But people confuse that with current ability, his current ability then and now was/is far off of Benatias
