So City now have 6 CBs... LOL.

Kompany, Mangala, Boyata, Demichelis, Nastasic, Richards/Sagna (both can't be 2nd choice RB)

Surely this means they are going to sell Nastasic and maybe loan Boyata out..

* 7 CBS - I forgot Rekik... but he will almost certainly get loaned out.

Nastasic would cost more, since he wasn't on the last year of his contract. He's also younger, and less experienced in the top flight than Vermaelen, who is a very good defender and a leader at the back. The only reason he wasn't starting for us was that Per and Laurent built a tremendous partnership, which him and Laurent couldn't.

When you have defenders being sold for 30m or 42m or 50m, Thomas Vermaelen at 15m is a HUGE value for the money you paid, plus he's got easily 4 years in his tanks.

Oh, and welcome to Arsenal Thumbs up

United set to sign £15.9m Rojo as Sporting are told to sellManchester United are expecting to sign Marcos Rojo (Picture: Getty)

Manchester United are confident of signing Marcos Rojo after Sporting Lisbon were told they must sell the defender or face a giant fine.

United made a £15.9million bid for Rojo yesterday and were boosted by the news that he has gone on strike and handed in a transfer request to make the move happen.

Sporting insist they won’t be bullied into a sale, but now reports say Rojo is United bound after Doyen Sports, the investment company who own the majority of his rights, told the Portuguese club they must sell.

If Sporting refuse, they have to pay Doyen 75% of the offer that they’ve turned down in the next two weeks, or face further fines.

The news means United are all but certain to get their man, with Sporting known to be struggling for cash.

Ross Barkley reportedly injured for 6-8 weeks. Would certainly miss our game against Everton in that case.

A risk worth taking, good business by them.

Time will tell which end of the spectrum this transfer falls on. Better managers have failed where Rodgers will be testing himself.

Still think we should have gone in for him at that price. More so than Mandzu. This isn't a player that's going to lose value. He's at rock bottom. Could potentially be worth 40m in 2 years time.

Brendan Rodgers gives a Wenger-esque response when asked about Balotelli joining Liverpool.

(two weeks ago he said "I can categorically tell you, Mario Balotelli will not be joining Liverpool")

At that point no one within the club had even a single thought of signing him. An odd string of events, beginning with Remy's failed medical, led to a drastic U-turn in thought... mainly due to desperation as the window approaches it's end.

Wasn't suggesting he'd been planning this all along or anything, I included the bit at the bottom as an explanation for why what he said in the vine is funny.

The labeling of it as "Wenger-esque" (as I understand it) suggests that, like Wenger has in the past, Rodgers denied any contact while in full knowledge that the club were planning or already pursuing Balotelli, which isn't the case.

The club saw him as untouchable until desperation set in.

No, the Wenger-esque label was meant in an entirely different way, purely in that it was a clever response to a transfer question.

If I meant it the way you thought I did then I'd admit to not knowing that Rodgers hadn't been planning to sign Balotelli at the time of the first statement.

Why didn't Liverpool go for Bony if they were so worried about Balo?

Because Bony isn't as talented, would have been more expensive(20m rather than 16m), and actually wanted higher (base) wages (100+k/week rather than ~90k/week guaranteed).

Carlo Ancelotti all but confirms that Angel di Maria will move to United.

Ancelotti: "Di Maria's situation is not official but it's done."

The decision (to leave) was Di Maria's. The club did all they could to keep him"

Di Maria has said goodbye. We thanked him for everything he has done for the club"

"Khedira is happy, and he's staying. The matter with him is resolved"
