Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
because Giroud and Poldi could already be fine back ups
we need out right quality added to our attack
might as well kept Gervi
Remy could be useful squadie be we already needed improvement on our XI attacking wise

Remy for £8m is great value for that price.
And that squad depth would be incredible.

Remy is not even better than the likes of Theo or Poldi, leave that spot open for a true world class striker instead of wasting it on average players like him

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
What if Giroud gets injured for 4 months? Sanchez upfront in his debut season all that time? Not a sensible option imo. And we all know Podolski is poor upfront as well. Walcott can get shut down by park the bus teams.
I am all up for signing someone like Kevin Volland. But Remy like Debuchy is PL proven. Makes more sense.
In any case, which WC striker can we get?

As a centre forward he is, comfortably so. Podolski and Walcott have already proven they can't play centre forward effectively.

agreed, no point in signing remy, when we have sanchez and walcott. you telling me remy is a better CF than sanchez?

if benz doesnt become available then forget it and save the space/money for him, because if he is not available now, he WILL become available in jan or next summer.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Feeling so meh about Remy even number wise we look good in attack and unless someone really top class comes available there's no need to add more.
CF: Giroud, Walcott, Sanogo
RW: Sanchez, Walcott, Campbell
LW: Chamberlain, Cazorla, Podolski
Let's get some defensive players now, CB, GK and DM.

is remy good at holding the ball up against physical deep defending sides, and bringing others into play? because if he isnt than he is no diff to sanchez up top.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Podolski can't play up front. Don't even use that, he's utterly anonymous as a CF, can't play with back to goal.
Remy at least has the cleverness to make runs and some killer instinct.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Remy scored 14 goals before the new year last season in a shite team who create f all.
He wouldn't hold you back at all and so what if i did? he's cheap you can move him on and buy better.
Not like i'm saying he's the answer but as cover he's more than good enough.

Yes, he's at his best when he can either dribble at defenses or stretching teams with runs in behind but he can do those things.
Not as good as Giroud obviously at hold up play obviously which is only natural considering the size difference but he can hold his own in that department.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I actually think Giroud will score more next season, simply because we'll create more chances for him with Walcott and Sanchez in the team. He won't necessarily be the most clinical, but could feasibly score around 25 goals. Bare in mind he scored 22 last season, having played way too many games, and with no width or pace in the team for the majority of the season.
And we don't necessarily need our centre forward to be able to score in big games. We've got Ramsey and Walcott for that.
25 goals from Giroud, 15 from Walcott, 15 from Sanchez, 15 from Ramsey; that's 70 goals from just four players and we can reasonably expect that. Add on goals from Podolski, Cazorla, Ozil and the few from defenders you inevitably get and it's a healthy goal total. Not the crazy totals Liverpool and City posted last season, but you don't need to score that many to win the league if you've got a good defence... which we have.

This. Exactly.
A new defensive minded CM(not necessarily an orthodox DM) is still vital imo. Our back 4 is amazing(or was amazing, still need to see how Debuchy fits in). Even with the high scoring matches we suffered, our back 4 wasn't at fault as our lack of cover in midfield was.
Khedira, Schneiderlin, Sven or Lars should sort that problem out.

Or Ozil, Alexis and Walcott will already be celebrating the goal by the time Giroud makes it down the pitch.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
^ +1 I actually think it'll be more a case of Sanchez (if it goes through) and Walcott playing narrow, with Ozil and Rambo patrolling wide areas from the midfield.
As for Remy..
The whole issue with our current striking options is that they all only work in a two-striker system.. Its Wrong to say that Walcott and Poldi don't work as strikers, because they do. Incl Sanchez, all are easily capable strikers but none are at all suitable to the lone role. Whereas I believe Remy is.
Mole (as I believe you are colloquially known) may be able to offer more insight on this as I haven't really analysed the effectiveness of Remy in the lone striker role in contrast to when they used two strikers.. as I know Newcastle would change between the two. All I know is that Remy can play as a lone striker and should be capable against mid table sides and lower.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Bony would be more ideal but Swansea are going to want way too much for him, fairly enough.
Reports are Madzukic going to Atletico for £14mil-£17.5mil.. I wonder if we missed the boat with him. He wasn't nearly as tempting when a £24mil price tag was being banded about. If the 14mil price is true we should defo hijack dat.

Lets assume this all happens.
What can this team accomplish. ls that enough to go as far as we are hoping?
-league position
-champions league round
-domestic cups, etc.
How can we do in those categories, realistically. Especially considering the upgrades other clubs have made? Or would it be a lateral movement relative to our competition

All agreed for Alexis. Will be anounced soon, possibly tomorrow.Arsenal will pay FCB £27.5 plus £2.3 for objectives. 4 years plus 1 optional

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
On paper, it'd definitely be a side good enough to at least challenge for the title. Anything less would be disappointing, considering last year's squad got within seven points of the title and were top of the table more than any other side.
Hard to judge cup competitions because they depend a lot on who you end up drawing.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Assuming the squad looks like that and we get Sanchez, Khedira and Remy.. that depth is insane. Only second to City, on par with Chelsea. You would have to have confidence in a title challenge.. But not so sure about getting past R16-Q/Finals for CL.
With any luck todays match might scare RM off Gustavo.. I still concede that Gustavo is more suitable than Khedira, despite Khedira having a blinder today.

Khedira's awesome WC will drive up his price tag and Arsene is never going to spend 20m+ on a deeper midfielder anyway

More like Real Madrid will want to keep him, Ancelotti is a fan anyway he won't let him go.
My prediction that we won't sign anyone in central midfield looking better everyday![hmm](/users/3313/22/97/24/smiles/2238782717.gif)
