Catalan radio say that Barça will bring in a second centre-back following £15.8m signing of Mathieu.

Bartomeu said a few weeks ago that we were after 2 defenders. Problem is the only actual CB we have been linked to is Marquinhos.

Cuadrado makes no sense since PSG bought Aueire or however you spell his name means they won't need Alves. Plus they are avoiding spending anymore than they have too because of FFP and they want Di Maria. So Alves is staying. Yet, apparently we still want Cuadrado...makes no sense this one

Marquinhos has a great future I'm sure.....but I wish we were linked with someone ready to step in and be a starter. Not someone that might be about as good as current version of Mascherano (and about the same height for that matter) but MAY eventually turn into a world beater.

Why pay 40m for a young guy like Marquinhos? Guys like Nastasic or that Balanta will surely be closer to half that price.

Looks like we might go in for Tomas Vermalean since Marquinhos and Cuadrado are too pricey

Vermalean actually has some pace. Just gets stuck out of position allot. Retarded signing tbh. Why not go with someone who's gradually getting better, not getting worse?

Dude is pretty good arial-ly though, wouldn't shock if he turned out to be a decent signing even though I'm not crazy about it. We should of got Mangala instead of spending the cash on Suarez. Of all the big clubs we must have the worse worse when it comes to signings.

From the news Mangala is about to be announced for City, on their website they accidentally leaked a video to welcome the player.

I wouldn't mind vertonghen or vermalean... but still we could of done better this transfer season, if we just gave the 40m for benatia they wanted earlier on we could of had him.

I seriously think we should go for Nastasić. He about to become 4th choice at City. His first season with them was monstrous, last season he had injury problems but he really is talented.

I agree on Nastasic, and it goes back to my point of us grabbing a guy who could go up and has crazy potentintial and would be cheap. Great gamble imo. Vermalean has steadily been getting worse

Wonder if Eto'o would like to play with us again, looked great in the Deco testimonial the other day and he's a free agent. Would be great depth and is loved by everyone (kinda how Drogba went back to Chelsea)

I would of been happy with having Etoo back, taking that Suarez money and signing any defender we so chose.

Alas, im not that naive.

Etoo wont be returning, not because of football but because he has a reputation, and part of that is telling it like it is and that turns people to some degree.

Time to sign a young CB. Acquiring anyone who is over 27 would be short sighted business and lacking any long term vision in my opinion.

Agger will be 30, Vermaelen will be 30, Vertonghen is 27, Marquinhos is 20
other then Marquinhos all the players we have been linked to are well a little past prime.


Vertonghen has been offered a new contract at spurs, and has said he would like to stay.
Marquinhos has said he'd welcome Barcelona but the problem is PSG do not want to sell.
I expect us to get Agger or Vermaelen

He misses to many games with injury and I am starting to believe the injuries have taken something out of his game physically.

Also I am not sure why we are almost obsessed with another left footed CB (Agger, Verm, Vert), it seems like intentionally targeting the lefties. I understood the need before Mathieu but now, it doesnt make any sense. Mathieu gives you the option to play as a LB, CB or "left defender" of a back 3. There is no need for another one of those types.

Mathieu has filled a possible tactical need, now is the time for quality/potential quality.

Would like Nastasic. I like him and would be happy with his signing, though I haven't seen a whole lot of him.

Not like we have any other real options. I remain a fan of Koscielny, but it's been a long time since we've been linked with him. I would be upset with buying Verm.
