I think this picture is merely a complement to Pirlo. It shows his true class, to dominate a game despite not being a "great athlete".
He cant defend? Yeah so what, you put other things in place and taking advantage of it isnt quite as simple as you think.

Yes but as we have discussed before I often wonder what it would be like to see Xavi at this age with the same setup that Pirlo gets i.e. lots of runners and workers on all sides of him and complete liberty to control everything.

I see the English still haven't figured out the concept of working smarter, not harder.

Or they could be showing how a player can still be great without running around an awful lot.
Hard to tell without the proper context.

In all fairness to ITV/BBC whichever one it was, they showed a stat before that showing how Pirlo covered more distance than a lot of the other players.

Erm, yeah, you took that post out of context. Can't believe you're telling me, i'm not appreciative of Pirlo's genius. You know, its not like I wasn't watching him week in and week out for nearly 10 years.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Amazing how things can turn on the internet
They were just showing stats as a point of discussion.... nothing to do with Pirlo well the sprints thing was but that was used as a way to praise him.
The English media do nothing but wank over Pirlo, not the opposite lol.

English media slaughter him for being old in-between tournaments, then they hop on his dick for a month or two

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Don't remember the English media ever talking about Pirlo inbetween tournaments tbh.
But when the tournament comes around they speak about him like he's the inventor of passing the ball
Anything they say about him is always positive.

When the draw was made, Chiles and the boys didn't shut up about how old he was and how he never moved. But yeah when tournaments come around they jump on the Pirlo bandwagon.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Not in this case at all, but I think generally speaking over the years Italy have been the nation the English pundits like to talk bad about.
Every single time they speak about how old they are or how "no more than 1 or 2" would get into England's team...and yet every time they win.
I repeat here is not the case, I didnt see it, but I am very sure the graphic was simply to show how you dont need to charge around the pitch to be a great midfielder.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Hodgson has named the starting eleven for tomorrow:
Basically anyone who hasn't played is getting some game time; expect Fraser Forster and Rickie Lambert to come on as subs.
That left hand side of Shaw, Wilshere and Lallana could do some damage, so expect us to play predominantly down the right hand side.
Foster
Jones - Smalling - Cahill - Shaw
Lampard (c) - Wilshere
Milner - Barkley - Lallana
Sturridge

If that's true, it's disappointing - although wouldn't be a surprise after Hodgson's failures in the two games.
Why the hell field Lampard? Just try Henderson - Wilshere.
Why Milner instead of Sterling or Oxlade?
Jones as RB when Johnson has really performed well there?
And Foster simply isn't going to be a starting keeper for England in the future.
A number of backward steps there. What an awful manager, bloody hell if he really is keeping his job after this fiasco.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Calm down Art. He's only giving starts to those who haven't had much game time this tournament, just to give them a taste of the tournament. Foster, Jones, Smalling, Shaw Lampard and Milner haven't had any minutes; Wilshere's barely played 30 and Barkley and Lallana have only appeared from the bench. Chamberlain's injured, otherwise would've gotten a start as well.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
With Lampard-Wilshere in a pivot, can't see us keep a clean sheet. Maybe we can try Wilshere as RW and Milner as CM?
It doesn't matter in the end. I do hope we win and go out with 3 points at least.
