I start to believe in Löw
After all, didn't he say somewhere that in the Northern Brazilian climate, fast fullbacks would be mostly useless and that he expects all European teams who mainly rely on pace and speed would be out by the quarter final?
Italy looked as if they were standing dead in the humid heat of Recife, and Costa Rica who were used to such climate thrived.
Now it all makes sense!!

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Anyone that followed USAs qualifying matches should have seen this coming.
Costa Rica plays great team D and arn't afraid to go for the quick strike.
I knew they would beat Uruguay, thought they would tie England and Italy while sneaking through.

If you posted a bit more than 10 posts a year, your invaluable insight might be taken a bit more seriously. Thanks anyway..

I paid very close attention to USA's qualifiers.. And honestly I don't think anyone can claim that they "saw it coming" that they would beat Uruguay 3-1 and Italy and be atop the group after 3 games, and be in the position to not only advance but win the group with 9 points. Not even the biggest, most passionate fans of the Costa Rican national team, or even the players themselves would have bet any sort of money at all on anything close to that.

Someone should remake this gif, and put all three flags of Uruguay, England and italy on that one kid and have Costa Rica be the other three

lol, Costa rica only started to defend deep in around the 70 minute mark, but before that they were pressing Italy and once they had the ball, they didn't just counter-attack, they actually kept possession..

Costa Rica
Still think Italy will progress though, unlike Uruguay they don't have to win and i think they'll sneak by.
They will have to pick it up big time to get past Colombia though.

So true. That's how Pirlo can be at his best - when the game is played at walking pace.

My thoughts are very similar. Italy could still pick themselves up and go far but even though I rated them very high before WC 2014 began something about this team now just does not seem to be working and it may just be too late to fix it.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Arquitescu predicted it.
Shameful match . Shameful.
I can't remember a similar disgust for a match played by Italy in WC . Just the Italy 2010 was so crap , but it was justified by scrub players called up by Lippi.
Oh , maybe in 2010 we are gone sometimes in area
No justifications this time . All the players must assume responsabilities for this loss.
Because the real dreadful thing is this loss was totally deserved.
We did nothing for 90 minutes, except that goal incredibly missed by Balotelli
( what did you say about the Queen , you pos ? )
for the rest all awful performances, for example Cassano didn't play so badly since he was a fat guy in Madrid.
But on the other hand Giuseppe Rossi was useless for Prandelli . But on the other hand a "tower" in attack for Prandelli couldn't be useful , we couldn't make full toss Stoke City-esque because noone would have taken it
We lost against a NT who has as best an Olimpiakos Pireus player . Definitely the new North Korea 1966 for us.
although respect for Costa Rica, they deserved it ,good football ,we organized and choral , they are Already qualified, I think noone could imagine it before of WC. The football is also this. For a neutral definitely a beautiful history . I can't say the same thing for us.
Now we are going to play our life against THE GOAT Luis Suarez.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Now I am seriously starting to get scared. Holy $$$$. Italy cant just bow down like this. Wheres the frigging passion azzurri! Only they are the ones capable of roadblocking if Germany decide to go on a crusade. So Italy has to be there at the business end no matter what. Seriously hope they can squeeze out of this group by parking a boeing 777 against Uruguay now.
however keeping that aside, I am uber pleased to see Super Rica outplaying two mighty teams and triumphing in that one heck of a group. What a campaign they are having. Simply mind boggling. They can easily reach the last 8 at least from this point

I meant your phone number, big boy, that's not countable, it doesn't change. But that's okay, I like it when you're all muscle and no brain. The pack of lube is open now.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Italy have a habit of losing to unfancied teams in the group stage - Slovakia in 2010, Ireland in 1994, North Korea in 1966 and now this. So they shouldn't still be counted out. It will be some match against Uruguay now but Suarez notwithstanding Italy should still manage the draw they need.
