Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Ah the famous committee, another fairy tale. It all sounds nice and all on paper, but are you trying to tell us that the committee is making signings the manager of the team hasnt agreed on? the whole idea of the committee is to double check the decision making in signing and pricing players, to avoid another comolli, not to one up the manager and to bring in people he hasnt agreed on, that's recipe for disaster. All those guys are people Rodgers has checked "yes" on.

Luis Alberto has already flopped? He looked great in Segunda.

Fallacies, quips, and no actual response... not terribly surprising but disappointing nonetheless.

Looks like Grasshoppers' Roman Bürki will play for SC Freiburg from next season on. He will replace Oliver Baumann, whom Freiburg lost to 1899 Hoffenheim. This would mean that the 4 top goalkeepers of Switzerland are now in the Bundesliga.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Luis Alberto is being shipped out because he hasn't adopted to life in England and was caught drunk driving.
and yes, in Rodgers' new contract, the main thing is that he has asked for more control over transfers...so yea, the signing of last 2 years, haven't all been Rodgers.
Can, is being bought to replace Lucas, and be deputy to Gerrard at DM, but is versatile enough to play ahead.
As long as we don't play him anywhere near LB (He is a disaster there ) , then I'm happy. I think his style is very suited to English football, and can prove to be a canny buy. If anyone can, Can can.

Rodgers ore before, we have never been rich enough or in a good position enough to buy established stars like Madrid do for example.
even our 2 highest profile signings of last decade, Torres and Suarez, came with question marks and were unproven at the biggest stage.
so we always shop at lower tier, because well...we aren't really rich. Always more risky, but sometimes you get great deals.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Actually, Liverpool used the Torres money to pay 23 million pounds for Suarez from Ajax, which was very much a big price at the time (2011). It was a winter transfer and Liverpool were not in CL. Since Ajax was a CL team and Suarez had played... he was ineligible for any of the CL teams, which is why Liverpool was able to jump in.
After this 2010 WC performance, his talent was clear. It was not a project. Teams were balking at Ajax' pricing in the summer and Suarez' first half performance in 2010/2011 alleviated those concerns (10 goals and 3 assists).

^ I always wonder then, why weren't any competition for the Suarez signing? It was literally just us and us.
Spurs were interested, but Sherwood went to scout him and reported he is too similar to Defoe and can't play up top on his own .
It may have been his antics or the bite...but signing Suarez without competition is so weird, to this day.
I remembered we started bidding at 12M (freaking Comolli ) , and then wrapped it up at 22M.

23 million pounds is a ton of money. That's 28,3 million euros. The dutch league is really easy in terms of scoring goals and people weren't convinced that his stats would carry over... I mean Jozy Altidore scored 31 goals in 2012/2013 in that league He also didn't light the CL on fire with 1 goal in 5 games.
That's why people were staying away... and the fact that he was not CL eligible for any other team than Ajax in Jan 2011.

It's still clear btw that Suarez' style won't cut it against top opponents... you can't put year head down and go bulldog with top defenders facing you. It won't work. In top games and CL, it's about being very tactically aware and precise with your runs as a CF. He needs to play less street ball and more of a refined style in order to become effective in these.

tbf even this last summer it was only Arsenal after him even when he had a very cheap buyout clause compared to other players. Doesn't mean he was "unknown" just means teams didn't want all the baggage that followed him. That's what I think anyways

hmm. As far as I know we have a buy back option, I wonder if they can make a deal without us
Didn't see the BILD 'article', but Honigstein etc are refering to a kicker article where they said Liverpool was inquiring about Can, and kind of insinuated the buy back option/first refusal doesn't apply to non-Bundesliga clubs. It's very hazily formulated though.
That's why I was wondering how this works, as we only sold him with the option to Leverkusen last summer.
Not that we would exercise or block anything, don't think we are interested in having him back, though unlike urban I think he can become a very good player.

Also Suarez's form this past season really improved. He was a terrific player before, but in addition to his "baggage" which you rightly mention (and which he's done a decent job of managing this year), he was also an very wasteful. A lot of turnovers due to failed dribbles. And he took a lot of shots in order to put up the numbers he did - his conversion rate before this season, if I remember correctly, was pretty bad for an elite player. This past year was kind of when he hit his true prime and became more clinical and even more intelligent on the pitch.
So in the summer of 2013, sure he was obviously one of the best forwards in the PL, but it wasn't as obvious then that he was worth upwards of £40 million compared to other players who might move for similar fees.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Manchester City are still willing to let three of their homegrown players leave this summer despite the restrictions placed on the club for failing to comply with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules, writes Sky Sports News reporter James Cooper.
City will see their Champions League squad trimmed to 21 names as one of the punishments handed out by European football's governing body, but it appears they will let Micah Richards, Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair depart the Etihad Stadium during the forthcoming transfer window.
Coupled with the departures of two other players who are out of contract this summer, Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott, it means the new Premier League champions will mount the defence of their title without five of their current English contingent.
UEFA's Champions League squad restriction includes a stipulation that between four and eight players named are 'homegrown', meaning they have to be English or have spent at least three years in an English academy.
City, whose summer transfer business will also be limited to £49m following the FFP breach, have outlined a number of potential targets but none of them are understood to be English after the club were quoted transfer fees which they believe, at this stage, are too excessive.
The sanctions will not affect the plans drawn up Manuel Pellegrini to strengthen his squad, and they look to spell the end of Micah Richards' 13 year association with the club.
Injuries and the form of Pablo Zabaleta have restricted Richards' first-team opportunities, with just 10 appearances this season, and City may well be prepared to accept a lower fee for the 25-year-old defender with any deal likely to include add-ons based on appearances.
One potential replacement for Richards is Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna - the 31-year-old is out of contract this summer and, as a free transfer, would allow City more space to manoeuvre when looking at transfer fees for other reinforcements.
The futures of midfield duo Rodwell and Sinclair are also uncertain with neither player likely to figure in Pellegrini's latest blueprint.
Rodwell, signed from Everton for £12m, has seen his opportunities hampered by a string of injuries and the club could well be prepared to let him leave on loan to give him first team opportunities.
Sinclair, who was signed by former Blues' boss Roberto Mancini, spent the past season on loan at West Brom, and City are understood to be considering the option of a further temporary deal or even a permanent exit for the player who cost them more than £6m in the summer of 2012.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta is not ruling out a summer move for Alexis Sanchez, but acknowledged the Barcelona forward would prove costly.
Italian champions Juventus have been strongly linked with a bid to sign Sanchez, who left Serie A to join Barcelona from Udinese three years ago.
Reports have claimed that Juve have a €20million (£16.3m) deal lined up for the Chile international, but it is dependent upon Antonio Conte remaining as coach.
Conte's future is still be finalised, while Liverpool are also reported to have shown an interest in Sanchez, who opened the scoring in Saturday's title decider against Atletico Madrid.
Marotta appeared to suggest that Juventus would welcome the chance to sign Sanchez, but no decisions on player recruitment will be made until Conte's future is resolved.
"Sanchez is a great player and every top club would like him, so clearly Juventus would also love to have him," Marotta told Sky Italia.
"We must take into account he is also a very expensive player and it must also be seen what he wants.
"Juve are always linked with a lot of players. At the moment, we are waiting to define the situation with the coach, then we will try to look for flexible players."

I'm expecting that rumour to be met with a lot of mockery and hate, but honestly Milner is a great option to have for any of the clubs listed... the biggest questions will be whether City let him leave and whether any of the interested clubs will be willing to match his current wages. I'd guess not.

I think he's a good option too, but with Man City potentially struggling to meet the number of necessary homegrown players I just can't see it happening. Or he could be just trying to get a better contract.
