Aston Villa up for sale

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner has announced that the Premier League club is being put up for sale.

The American assumed control of Villa in 2006 after a £62.6m takeover was agreed with the club's board.

"I owe it to Villa to move on, and look for fresh, invigorated leadership, if in my heart I feel I can no longer do the job," he said on Monday.

Villa finished the 2013-14 season in 15th position, five points above the relegation zone.
Their Premier League status was only secured with victory over Hull City on 3 May and the future of manager Paul Lambert remains uncertain.

Lerner had said last month that he would address speculation regarding his own future at the club in the summer.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, the owner said he had engaged Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on the club's sale.

Are there going to be a number of eager takers or will it be difficult to find a buyer? hmm

I just hope the new owner(s) will be someone sensible and respectable, we've seen too many morons buy English (and Welsh) clubs in recent years.

I don't think he's making that public, but he has invested somewhere between £200m - £250m in the club during his ownership and he paid something like £65m for it, so I would imagine he would like quite a lot of that back.

They are actually a proper historic top club. Wouldn't be as bad having nobodies like Chelsea and City rise up.

PS. GL should put all our money together and purchase Villa. Then appoint MT as manager for the lolz.

biggest club in the 2nd biggest city in England, it wouldn't be out of the question if they got a sugar daddy or surprise me

I wonder for how long they've been looking for a buyer and are there any negotiations going on... I doubt Villa are going to be doing much, if any, transfer business before the club's been sold and that would be a worry for me if I was a Villa fan.

Bari that is in Italian second division (Serie B) is available for 2 mil euros FYI.... I think they're in the playoffs to get into Serie A too. Much better buy lol.

Not surprising, this has been in the works for over a year, was this not reported in the UK?

Expect Villa to stay under American ownership from what I am hearing in a set up very much like the American group which purchased Roma.
