Since Rossi has been dropped it means Prandelli will continue with the Euro 2012 way of playing Cassano and Balotelli up front.

I think Rossi's injuries have taken their toll for him not to feature for Azzurri.

He could have easily got into the USA team right now.

Looks like Shkodran Mustafi, Marcel Schmelzer and Kevin Volland didn't make the cut for the DFB-Elf. It's not official yet, though (waiting for the squad to be published at dfb.de still).

Erik Durm would be starting as LB. Marcel Schmelzer is still injured. Backup? Possibly Jérôme Boateng or Kevin Großkreutz.

That's just not good enough, Durm has done fine in the league but Bale ripped him apart not long ago and that's the calibre of players he'll play against in later stages. A fit Schmelzer makes atleast the squad if not the first team.

Can't believe this decision honestly, it seems official too now Sportschau confirms.

Well, obviously Marcel Schmelzer wasn't fit - from what I read, he didn't actually train with the team most of the time as he was still nursing some injury.

well, neither did Lahm and Neuer. Why not leave them at home as well. Why not let Mitchell Weiser play RB for the World Cup while we're at it?
