The Europa League Equation
The ladder:
1. Juve 84 - CL
2. Roma 79 - CL
3. Napoli 67 - CL
4. Fiorentina 58 - EL
5. Inter (+20) 53 - EL
6. Parma (+11) 51
7. Torino (+7) 48
8. Milan (+6) 48
9. Lazio (+0) 48
1. Italy has 3 EL spots: 1 for 4th place Serie A, 1 for 5th place Serie A and 1 for the winner of the Coppa Italia.
2. Let's assume Fiorentina are untouchable on 58 points. Their position in the EL is secured. That would usually mean that only position available is 5th, currently occupied by Inter.
3. However, the Coppa Italia is being contested between Napoli and Fiorentina, both of which are already guaranteed European football.
4. This means that the 6th placed team in Serie A will also qualify for the EL - currently Parma.
5. Inter have an extremely difficult run to the end of the season, including v Napoli and v 3 other contenders for EL qualification.
6. Parma have a somewhat easier run, but much will depend on the key games v Inter & Torino.
7. Torino have a reasonable run in. Games against Lazio and Parma will be crucial.
8. Milan's key games are against Roma and Inter, but the other games will need to be won as well to have the best chance of European football. Getting some goal difference over Torino would help greatly.
9. Lazio have a tough draw with Torino and Inter to face, but Verona might also pose a threat and sit only 2 pts below Lazio.
KEY
Teams that have secured European competition
Rival for EL qualification
Relegation battler
Inter: Parma (a), Napoli (h), Milan (a), Lazio (h), Chievo (a).
Parma: Inter (h), Cagliari (a), Samp (h), Torino (a), Livorno (h).
Torino: Lazio (a), Udinese (h), Chievo (a), Parma (h), Fiorentina (a).
Milan: Livorno (h), Roma (a), Inter (h), Atalanta (a), Sassuolo (h)

Re: Milan - Catania | Serie A Matchday 33 | April 13th, 2014
Not happy with the performance at all. Post brilliant Montolivo goal we were bombarded in the box by an attack well-led by Francesco Lodi. If not for Abbiati's excellent positioning of late, we would have conceded 1 or more, a testament to how our inability to seal the game will cost us nigh luck escapes us.
Individually I was happy with the performances of Andrea Poli, Kaka (despite being very wasteful), Bonera, Rami, and Montolivo.
Constant did not deserve to get booed like that especially considering his decent performances as of late. Surmise that THAT Twitter picture remains seared in their minds.
Tactically and aesthetically it was just an awful match to watch for us and neutrals alike. I am glad that Catania are pretty much relegated for their obsessive use of has-been Argentines and the all 'round thuggish mentality of their team.
