How good is Kompany?

there is a little bit of a debate going on about this guy. In french medias for example, the biggest sports radio made it a topic, and similar some spanish journalists that i follow are doing the same on twitter.

So what's the GL consensus about the guy?

Has every single tool to be great and sometimes is great, but has the occasional moment of disaster.

I think he's world class, easily top three centre backs currently playing in the game today.

Barca should move heaven and earth to get him in the summer, he's just what they need.

Considering that City needs money right now, it will be easy for them. But still they need to buy Pique and Alba replacements.

Moves far too high up the pitch and lands on his ass against skillful attackers every single time. Build to battle with classical EPL lanky #9s. Poor man's Vidic basically.

Depends on the system. He was very meh last year in a base traditional system because his mistakes were in the box or right at the edge of the box. With Pelle, City plays a high line... so he can make the mistake and recover. Doing a lot better with the high line system since he can use his athleticism to overcome his defensive fundamentals' flaws.

He's like Pepe to me.

I think that his performance against us has been a tad bit overrated by the media. In the first leg, it was he who broke the offside trap when demichelis got sent off, and last night, Messi was getting past him with ease..

Doesn't seem to be able to cope with tricky attackers well at all

That being said, he's definitely a top 10 CB, maybe even top 5 depending on who you ask

He fell about 5 times on his ass trying to land a tackle yesterday and could have been easily sent off with a few reckless challenges, 1 that could have been interpreted as a last man tackle. English media still portrayed it as some sort of captain fantastic performance. Tells you everything you need to know about his reputation and where it stems from.

No doubt the English media, particularly sky sports on CL nights, kiss up to players from the BPL

However, i'd struggle to name more than 6 or 7 defenders better than him, some would be debatable

Fantastic organiser, beast in the air and leader.

But he struggles so much 1 v 1 sometimes its a detriment to his team.

Although it must be said defensively he plays with utter scrubs.... Fernandinho is the only decent defensive midfielder they have and even he has taken a while to adapt to the role.

Yaya, Silva and Nasri add f*ck all defensively.... meanwhile it doesn't matter who you want to name but their LBs are f*cking crap be it Clichy, Kolarov and same goes for any of his CB partners

Zabaleta is the only other decent defender they have and even he is overrated, so basically Kompany and Fernandinho are keeping them afloat defensively by themselves.

So i'd make a guess that with better help he would do a lot better as in individual 1 v 1 defender.

He was crap for a long while this season, compared with the others at Man C hes much better. What I like about him is his determination and attitude. Ability wise I dont think hes that great. Overall very good but has weaknesses and off form at times. If Man C sign another top CB to partner I think he can be even better.

  Keep   Transfermarkett then.
Also Varane, Marquihos might be in that list because there are youngers mainly. Valuable is the key word here.
Pique isn't better than Kompany right now.

I'd take kompany in my team and make sure that my tactics don't expose much of his flaws. that how good i think he is.

Ok hold on.. He fell straight on his ass.. well that's considering he was up against messi or iniesta 1v1.. a fired up iniesta/messi 1v1.. I hope you realize those two are near impossible to take the ball away from when actually playing at their 100%. Like literally impossible..

Thats interesting that every top team's CB area is a weaklink, thats kinda true and a bit strange why in the past maybe its not like that....

Dante is underrated, I think hes one of the best.

bad enough to get sent off for a last resort foul against Hull, obviously.
