Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Arteta will be rotated a lot more next season. Wilshere (and hopefully Diaby) will hopefully be injury-free and Lars Bender is set to arrive (or another DM).

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Not so high on Lars since United put 5 past Leverkusen and PSG obliterated them. Both times he was no where to be seen.
Who knows though. The whole Leverkusen team was crap tbh.

My 2 cents:
Bender is better than what 2 matches would suggest. Also has age on his side. I still hope to see more from him. But he's hit a ceiling at Neverkusen. If he knows what's best for him, he'd chose to move to a bigger club with a better coach, facilities, etc.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Yeah. Agree sri.
A change might just be what he needs at this time. He's hitting saturation-point at Leverkusen now. Needs a change of scenery.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
I wholeheartedly agree with this bit from today's Arseblog.

Arteta was straight over to Sanchez when he arrived to offer him any kind of help he needed settling in, with the language, anything and everything to help ease the transition to a new club/culture. There’s no doubt the Spaniard is heading towards the final years of his career, but I think people need to look beyond the pitch to see what a positive influence he is at the club and in the dressing room.
When you consider the state we were in when we plucked him from Everton at the last minute (and almost bollixed the deal by stiffing him on wages at the the 11th hour), he’s played a massive role in getting us to this point. While he might not go down as one of the Wenger greats in comparison to the likes of Pires, Henry, Vieira etc, I really think he’s been one of the most effective and influential signings the manager has ever made. It might have been borne out of desperate necessity, but he’s done a hugely important job for us and doesn’t always get the credit he deserves.
He’s in the final year of his contract now, and touched on that too, saying:
I had my conversation with the manager, he knows my opinion and I know his opinion and we’re all good. That’s all I can say. I can’t stop the rumours, but you can be sure that I’m really happy here. I feel valued, I’ve been given a lot of responsibility and I like it. Until the club thinks something different about me, I’m happy here.
My feeling is that as he’ll be 33 when his contract runs out, it just gives him enough time to make one more move. Perhaps to the MLS to follow his mate Tim Cahill, for example. He might well still have something to offer us – too often we’ve let experience go when it might have proved vital, but I suspect he’s keeping his options open and both he and Arsene are quite happy with that.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Spot on. I've nothing but respect for the man and all the sacrifices he's made for us, wages, being played out of position, taking unfair abuse and how he leads by example and still being loyal to the club through it all with the way he carries himself and speaks about Arsenal.
He's definitely got a role to play for this season, maybe not as a starter but he's hugely important in the dressing room and for depth.
We'll see if at the end of the season both him and Arsenal both feel the same way.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
I can see him being offered one year deal and rejecting it, just can't see Arsene offering him more than one year regardless of his contribution

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
I think a one year extension would be fair.
Rosicky got one year + the option for a second based off of performance (making a certain amount of apps if I recall)

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Arteta can have a positive influence on our younger guys. Him and Per are the actual leaders of the team. Losing him would be bad for the morale of the team imo. Plus, its not like he cant contribute. He was exposed more often last year , but that partially had to do with Ramsey making those runs imo.
Schneiderlin/Khedira -Arteta combo would be ideal when we are closing out games.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Realistically, Arteta's contributions should be more limited this season, because his age is making his role even more difficult and it hurts the team on the pitch.
But on a wider level, every bit as realistically, Arteta's influence and his solidity as a great professional & man have had a terrific influence in the squad. Really. His arrival at Arsenal in the wake of Cesc's sale proved hugely beneficial and I think only time will show how crucial a role he played in helping the catastrophe at the club stay relatively small.

Re: Should Arteta be starting for us?
Apparently Arteta has been busy getting coaching badges in his time out due to injury.
He is very intelligent so won't mind if he decides to join us as a coach after retirement.

Would love that. Would be nice to see a captain and squad leader stay/return to the club so soon after retiring and Arteta would be a great one to have. Always hear players/staff talking about how well he leads.
