They said he had the talent to be WC one day, which is true from what i saw at Roma.

I agree with your premise but a lot of the time no one says it and when players get hyped people overreact and like people are saying they are WC.

When in reality no one ever said that.

And CBs get some of their criticism very wrongly, too. A CB can play 80 minutes brilliantly, 10 minutes poorly, and get criticised massively. A striker can play 80 minutes poorly, 10 minutes brilliantly and get praised because he scored.

Off the top of my head, players who have recently been hyped up too much after a short spell of excellence, there aren't too many... Fellaini, Lambert, Remy, Matic.

Ramos can play badly for a year, and be named as the best at his position hmm

Who overhyped him though? in any case his drop in form was quite easily explainable.

He's not a centre forward, his best form came playing as an SS or from the left where he could use his dribbling ability to run at back 4s.

He can't lead the line at all, which is why i wanted us to sign Bony. Sad

An important player for a team for me is a player that has a signifficant positive influence in the team's display and when he's replaced the team suffers ...

If you consider he was important for Rome, i'm ok with it, your opinion... That doesn't exclude the fact that he was a mediocre defender in Serie A.
