Been discussed in the GOAT PL thread, but they were shouting things at him and, imo, that's just good banter back at them.

Not only were they shouting abuse at him while he was down injured, they also hurled coins and cigarette lighters at him

Reminds me of Adebayor's celebration, or Suarez's dive in front of Moyes to celebrate a goal. Not particularly classy, but nothing to get upset about either.

Dont see a problem, when I watched the game didnt think twice really.
They were giving him abuse, so he reminded him what the score was. That's how I took it.

Yes. He got abuse from fans and he returned it. Only real difference was that he wasn't celebrating a goal when he did so.Lex wrote:Really?RedOranje wrote:Reminds me of Adebayor's celebration, or Suarez's dive in front of Moyes to celebrate a goal

I honestly couldn't care less tbh, if people stop this kind of thing and by people i mean the governing bodies you take even more "fun" out of the game than you already have.
No issue at all.

"Ban him with fire."
Fired back at Spurs fans' abuse in the cleanest way imo.

For the record I don't see anything wrong with it either, it's just that when Pique did basically the same thing he was heavily criticized for it.

Except it wasn't remotely as aggressive or incitive. Nothing would have even happened had they not stretchered him along right in front of the spurs fans to have coins throw at him.

Money shot: A matchday steward holds a handful of coins that were thrown in the direction of Walcott

Re: Classy Walcott
Gesturing to rival fans is always incitive [sic] in some manner. Nothing would have happened with Adebayor had Arsenal fans not abused him for the manner of his exit. Nothing would have happened for Suarez's celebration had Moyes and Everton fans not abused him for "being a diver." Such moves are always incited by something and always incite something, such is their nature. I'm not criticising Walcott for doing what he did, just as I did not criticise other players for taking similar actions. You can defend it all you want but there are definite similarities in the cases.DuringTheWar wrote:RedOranje wrote:Yes. He got abuse from fans and he returned it. Classy no, but it was witty if the Spurs fans were being that abusive.

Did the right thing. It will be really stupid if he gets punished for this.

Re: Classy Walcott
The thing that surprised me about this incident is that Walcott really didn't affect the match very much. Most of the other examples given in this thread have been from players that had an impact on the match. Walcott was largely peripheral yesterday. It's a bit odd to see a player incite/respond to abuse in such an inflamatory manner after having very little impact.
Keep in mind that this absolves neither Walcott, nor the Spurs fans hurling abuse/items. It's merely an observation.

Re: Classy Walcott
Because in the examples given by Red, both players instigated the reactions by scoring a goal, then rubbing the fan's/Moye's face in it. All Walcott did was play for a rival club and get injured in front of the away crowd.
